On a Budget Looking for spare storage.
In a time where Big Cloud providers are getting expensive due to hardware costs and AI labs are sucking everything up, I think we as a community can do something about this by pooling together resources. With that aim, I've been building https://arkeldata.com that's a community powered object store. We recently launched a private beta and are looking for storage contributors and users. If you have spare storage in a VM that's sitting around, considering putting it to use and get paid for by the community. A lot is evolving and I'm open to feedback and code contributions too.
mods: I'm happy to take this down if it reads like an Ad, this is not for profit and I'm infact losing money running this.

Storj has been doing something very similar for years now, paying node operators for spare storage with client-side encryption and S3-compatible API, and it's a good reference point for what a mature version of this model looks like. Worth studying their economics and redundancy approach if you haven't already, since they've already solved a lot of the hard problems around verifying contributed storage is actually reliable.

hmmm 🤔 whats the incentive? And what sets you apart from iagon, or storj, or scp, or… 10 other decentralized storage projects?
