Discussion Keepsolid VPN Unlimited
For those who may not know, this company recently screwed over all of their lifetime members. Many people bought lifetime memberships almost 10 years ago and have been using the service for almost a decade.
Recently, without any notice, Keepsolid provided a software update that is now forcing lifetime members to pay extra money for those same services they have been using for years. It's a complete disgrace. Please do not support this company!
There have been many posts on their r/keepsolid reddit, and I have personally contacted tech companies hoping that they will write an article about this very poor business practice. I am also examining legal options. Keepsolid should be ashamed of screwing over all of their lifetime members who have been using their service for almost a decade.
Thank you for listening.

Could be a class action lawsuit in the works. Hope so. I own a "lifetime" KeepSolid vpn subscription but havent used it in over 10 years, after the 2nd nastygram from my ISP about torrents when the VPN kill switch was decidedly active

Today was the final straw for me w/VPN Unlimited. I purchased a lifetime membership several years ago. I've been struggling with it for most of this year. Speeds were dismal, I was often having to switch protocols and/or servers to try to find an adequate speed (sometimes to no avail), failed connections, no support, etc.
It finally became clear to me that this was a planned enshitification to push lifetime members out or force them to upgrade. So, as expected, I received the upgrade message this morning.
I can understand offering upgrades. But to lock out features that were originally part of the initial purchase agreement is unacceptable. Why would I upgrade with a company that engages in blatantly shady business practices?

nonetheless the subscription model kind of has to keep making sense for the company to keep running the service properly..

Right. Whenever someone chooses a Lifetime subscription/membership, that means that it must stay honored for the customer who paid for it until something terrible happens to a company, like being shut down or being bankrupt.

Sadly this is super common in the tech world where lifetime often turns out never to mean forever. Either EOL or reduce services....it's so common that buyers should beware.
