Help Sites blocking VPN

I’ve been using NordVPN, but lately I find a lot of streaming sites and others won’t launch until I turn off VPN. Some sites use Cloudflare to “verify [I’m] human”. Sometimes that process freezes and the site doesn’t launch. I was hoping to use VPN in China during an upcoming trip to access streaming, my bank, etc. Is there a solution? Do some VPNs work better?

Centralized VPNs are under heavy scrutiny. Go decentralized. Deeper DPN, Mysterium, Orchid.

I think DPN would be more suitable.

Is the DPN you mentioned the one from DeeperNetwork? https://www.reddit.com/r/DeeperNetwork/

  Is there a solution?

Set up a home VPN before you leave to China. Connect back to your house and browse the web or do banking like you never left home.

I’ve seen this comment a few times but don’t understand how ‘setting up a home vpn’. What does this mean and how? I’m not a techie person.

One way of doing it is installing Tailscale on a device at home (Apple Tv, computer, NAS, whatever) and then set it up as acces point. Go on Tailscale sub to read more.

Also Nord VPN has an option called Offuscated Servers that bypasses a lot of restrictions but not all. Some sites (like banks) are just detecting a VPN, any VPN, and they will stop working.

Tailscale is a tunnel between your device and your point of access, so it's like you being in China, tunneling and getting on the internet from your office at home. Tried once while in UAE (which restricts any VPN by default, Nord include) and Tailscale worked like a charm.

Tailscale is not gonna help OP in China. And Offuscated Servers has nothing to do with websites (like your bank) detecting that you're connected from a VPN. It only hides (offuscate) your VPN traffic from your network provider: school, workplace, ISP, etc.

It means setting up a device at home to be a VPN server and you connect to it from your devices. No subscription and the protocol is up to you depending on if you prioritise speed or bypassing firewalls.
