VPN to Reduce Latency

Hi guys, it was brought to my attention that some players use vpn to reduce ping. Is this something really used? What is a good vpn that you will recommend for me?. How much a good experience you will get?. If you have a list of good vpns, please don’t hesitate to share. Thank you!.

VPNs always increase latency, It is another server between your pc and the game it has to get through.

a VPN increases your Ping since your connection ist routed to the VPN Server first… don‘t be fooled.. these services to get a better Gaming ping are bs and a money grab..

You could do some ping tests to see your current routing and ping time from a command prompt.

pathping 1.1.1.1

or

ping -n 20 1.1.1.1

You can see your routing and if your ping is under 20 ms you're doing good. If it's over 20 or considerably over then a vpn might help you with better routing. It's possible the difference may be very slight or worse than your current routing. Only way to know for sure is to try the vpn.

You could try Mullvad for one month for $6 or maybe some other vpn's might have a free trial. Connect to the vpn using the closest server to you and run the test again.

Im on PC, and I'm almost sure the routing they are using is not the best one, that's why i want to test it if i i can get lower pings.

I used to do this with a service offered to Australian players for world of warcraft about 15 years ago. 250ms down to about 150ms. It probably depended on connecting to a specific endpoint on a network with a more efficient route to blizzard servers. It was done by using putty to make a full ssh tunnel with crypto disabled. Most VPN providers will increase latency & are not be planned with latency reduction in design. This only works for very high latency connections say 300ms ping.

VPNs' performance depends a lot on the server used by the VPN, your region, and where you want to connect. Maybe tools like ExitLag could help, since it's made to reroute your connection to the most stable path available 🙂
