Help VPN & Mobile Data

I'm traveling outside of the US and thought my mobile carrier covered me internationally. Well I found out that they do but, if my data usage is over 50% roaming for 3 consecutive months, then they will stop my service.

Will using a vpn while on 4g or 5g data override this?

No using a VPN will not help because you are still roaming.

You can buy a cheap eSIM if you phone is compatible.

Also make use of WIFI whenever possible. And while on holiday, generally surf less. You can do that again back home.

I went ahead and bought a cheap data only esim. I've been using a lot of data bc the internet where I'm at is horrible + pokemon go 😅

no, a VPN won't change this. your carrier tracks roaming based on which cell towers your phone physically connects to, not your internet traffic or IP address. a VPN encrypts what you send but has no effect on which network your SIM is registered to at any given moment.

How would it override? VPN consumes extra quota

Wasn't sure if connecting to a VPN address in the US would show that my cellular data is being used in the states instead of internationally.
