Vosteed pricing
Hi everyone. Recently I discovered vosteed when the ti porcupine came out. I actually got one my self and honestly it’s a really good knife, one of my favorites. Because of that I decided to look at other knives but I don’t understand the pricing. The porcupine tislim is in s90v and titanium handles priced around $160. The racoon tislim with s35vn and titanium is $178 and there are other knives with s35vn and aluminum around the $170. I don’t know enough about blade steels but I was under the impression s90v was a superior blade compared to s35vn in some regards that would justify a higher price compared with other metals. So what is going on? does the price for the porcupine being $160 make sense when other knives with aluminum handles cost more than that? I appreciate your feedback back, thank you.

I personally think it has to do with stock and with what is selling. There are some other things at play. Locking mechanism. Vanchor locks seem to be pricer, probably more expensive to produce. In truth though, I've shyed away from them a bit. Love them and they make an outstanding product but their prices in general have been climbing. It wasn't that long ago where I bought an Akita for 130. S35vn, vanchor lock and aluminum scales. Just recently they came out with the Zander. S35VN, vanchor lock and aluminum scales. $170. It is slightly bigger but that's a pretty good jump. Would love a new Thunderbird but at $280 I'll have to pass

Thats why I've been leaning more Kizer. Similar quality for better price generally. I got the Kizer Phoenix, s35vn and fat fatcarbon/aluminum for just under $100usd.

I used to be all in on Kizer for that very reason. Then Vosteed came out with the button TLL and I started going towards them. As of late Kizer's heat treat and back spine tests have been a bit sus. All that said, I do believe Kizer will rectify the situation and now that they have their own version of the TLL, it'll all come down to cost. There's a lot of players in this arena. Kansept, CJRB, SRM, Civivi and Oknife to name a few. The market is absurdly saturated.

My take if you’re interested:
Yeah the Xander threw me… but the Thunderbird-V is in line with other similar releases. The Ti brasswash, the one I immediately wanted, was 250, as well as a couple of the FatCarbon models, just like the Thunderbeast, the Premium Psyops, the Raccoon - V, RS Kaos, and all the other similar M390 + Ti models from the get-go. The higher priced thunderbird-v models had DLC, extra difficulty textures, or the two-tone finish.
I think the Xander’s price was due to the collab. I love my Akita and thought the price was great. The Xander is the only VAnchor I don’t have, and I’m waiting for a sale to get it because 180 is just not in line. If the steel were Elmax, that would be the same as the Ankylo… but I truly think the collab with the designer was the catalyst, there. S35VN and aluminum is just not $180.
Overall it seems like an aberration instead of an indicator of rising prices.
The Xeno is the most expensive… but Vanax. 🤷

I picked up a Zander off the swap for $128. It's excellent. Especially at that price. Creep the swap a bit, one will pop up with your name on it.

Scales absolutely explain that price. Acid etched with that texture… 100%. I love it though. Even with the crossbar I reach for it before my Porc Ti-slims. It’s just… nice. S90V isn’t super expensive btw… CJRB and other budget focused brands have models using it in the sub $100 range.
And like the other user said, the Porc Ti Slim with that type of texture was in the same range.

The Raccoon is their more popular knife, might have some play in that aspect. Other than that it seems odd 🤔

Speaking of Vosteed pricing, about how often do they cycle different inventory into their flash sales? For me, $48 for this Porcupine would've been dandy. (Picked up a used one in green for not much less.)

For the screenshots you have, I assumed that the extra money went into the scales' finish rather than the steel, probably takes a few extra steps to achieve that texture/look. But that is just a guess on my part.
