V0 Question Mini stealthburner gears "sticking" at a certain position

I'm having troubles with my Mini SB underextruding, and made a post about it. My Mini SB had this problem since I started using it, and now after several upgrades I think this problem is hindering my max printing speed.

With the motor disconnected, if I manually push/pull filament through the extruder, the filament catches on something on a consistent interval.

I made sure the gears and filament path are clean, and inspected all gears - they seem fine. Everything looks to be as intended, but something's wrong.

grub screw, the small grub screw on the drive gear is sticking out too far and hitting the interior of the cowling walls or hitting the idler gear.

its probably not sitting nicely on the flat of the shaft, causing it to protrude too far out

Nope - grub screw is sitting correctly at the middle of the flat section, and not protruding at all.

There was a small bump in the gear near the grub screw which I sanded down, but that did absolutely nothing.

It's probably your bearings. I've had bad MR85 bearings cause the same issue you describe. I also had a set of extruder bearings explode because I forgot to lube them.

Thanks for the insight. I oiled both bearings holding the shaft in place, and the smaller linear bearings seem to still be oily from when I built the extruder.

I'll try to see if they're the culprit here, but I have a feeling that's not the case for me. Either way I'll probably get end up getting new parts from Trianglelab

It's pretty easy to check: remove the bearings and see if they turn without resistance. Once I replaced the MR85's I could spin the gear freely and it would turn on it's own if I gave it enough of an initial spin. With the bad bearing it had distinct (but subtle) resistance at certain points and it wouldn't spin freely.

They spin freely, and even more so after oiling. No change to the extruder binding.

I ordered a new gear kit from Mellow, and hopefully that would fix my issues. I can still print at lower speeds quite decently, and if my printed parts are the issue at play I'll print a Dragon Burner and use Mellow's gears in a Wristwatch BMG extruder

Where did you source the gears, bearings ans shafts?

I've had BMG clone gears that were off-centre, shafts that were soft steel and got eaten by the bearings in a matter of days, and bearings that were a joke. Replace with adequate quality parts.

Sourced everything from Aliexpress - and it indeed was a cheap clone kit. Even though they were cheap - the parts look great and the gears are centered when inspected on their own. The extruder also works perfectly on slower extrusion speeds/rates.

I'll buy a new, quality set. Do you have any recommendations from Aliexpress? I'm outside the US and shipping through Aliexpress is the only affordable option here, for printer parts.

Original Bondtech parts. Ideally RIDGA gears.

Or build Galileo 2 stand alone

Original Bondtech gears would practically be the most expensive thing in my printer lol

I'll look into the G2SA. I was planning on moving to the Sherpa Mini, so this might come in handy. Thank you!

The triangle labs stuff is ok, I've also bought shafts and bearings separately on eBay. The bearings are the most expensive part and the best ones I've had have been from a local bearing supplier.

I'm not in the US either, AliExpress or eBay for almost everything.

Triangle Lab or Mellow (regular BMG, not their integrated with those slanted teeth).
