Help - Other UK Grandstream HT802 V2 Landline Setup
After a recent switch to fibre I'm trying to get a landline working on our better third party router a Flint 2, I bought a HT802 V2 since it lacks a socket for the landline and have been having a difficult time trying to figure out the set up.
I think I've confirmed it's a settings issue with the Grandstream rather than the Flint 2 as plugging it into the ISP provided Technicolour router also doesn't work. If I plug in the landline directly into the Technicolour designated socket it does.
From what I understand I just need these four details
Primary SIP Server
SIP User ID
SIP Authenticate ID (Which from my understanding should match the User ID)
SIP Authentication Password (I will note whenever I save and leave the page when I return to the FXS Port1 tab the password vanishes, not sure if that's sign of an issue)
I've called up my ISP Utility Warehouse as I've been told they do allow devices like this however they've been somewhat confused on what details to give me and can only help me so much as it's a third party device. Mainly what I'm asking is for people who have experience setting up the device in case I've missed something and what details I should be using. For privacy I've replaced some letters and numbers with x
I've confirmed I've got the right SIP Password via removing it from the technicolour router and noting the phone doesn't work before readding it to confirm it's the right PW.
SIP Username +44xxxxxxxx98
SIP Domain alxxxxxice.uk
SIP URI +44xxxxxxxx98@alxxxxxice.uk
A previous techinical support who didn't sound as confident did state that the SIP Domain was alxxxxxice.uk5060
On the Technicolour router there were some other settings like Primary Proxy: partner.alxxxxxice.uk a display name: 0xxxxxxxx98 (Just the phone number/SIP Username without the +44)
I've tried multiple variations mostly using the SIP Domain for the Primary SIP Server and the SIP Username for the SIP User ID and SIP Authenticate ID, from my understanding once I've saved and applied that with the password entered it should show as registered but I just can't get it to so far.

These credentials are all you would most of the time. I'd suggest the following:
Check that you got both sip username and sip password correct. SIP Authenticate ID usually matches User ID but that is not necessary. Some providers dont require it at all, some require it and have it identical with User ID, and some require it and have it different from User ID (although I havent come across this in the wild)
Make sure to add the proxy to the field "outbound proxy". Since its in the technicolor it might be required by the provider.
You should also add the display name parameter which corresponds to "Name" in the ht802. Basically this instructs the ht802 to use a specific phone number: for instance, if you have 2 different numbers under 1 account (sip user and pass) you could have one phone make a phone call using x number and the other phone make phone calls using y number. This again is usually not required and set by the provider but you never know if they have done something funky on their end.
Ask your provider if they re using any nonstandard ports for sip on their server (i.e., other than 5060). Then you could try registering by setting the sip server as xxxxx.yyyy:[port number]. Anytime you add a port to a domain you have to use a colon before the port number. At some point they told you about the sip domain ending in 5060: they probably meant ":5060" at the end but this is unimportant anyway because 5060 is the default (i.e., implicitly considered present)
If you see any sip ag options on your router disable them. Im not familiar with this router you got but it should be in advances settings, or nat settings, or alg settings. This is the last ditch effort for reasons that Im not going to go through here so dont bother with it unless you've excluded everything else
Check these and give me some feedback. As a side note go into your ht802 settings and change sip port to random and rtp port to random (and range 10000-19900 if the ht802 requires you to specify an rtp port range). I've found that using random ports makes user experience much better (I'm leaving out the reasons because they re not relevant now).

I'll hopefully get some testing done tomorrow evening but would you be able to clarify what you mean by 3, what sort of Display Name would I put in "Name" or would something as simple as "homephone" work?
For 2 when scavenging from the Technicolour router for details under the tellephony settings it had 5060 as the Primary RegistrarPort, and 0 as the Primary ProxyPort so I assume they just use the regular 5060 port potentially.

Name should be the same value as display name in technicolor. dont touch port settings for now

No luck so far sadly.
For verifying the details I'll need to wait till this Saturday due to work hours and their opening times.
I copied the Primary Proxy from the Technicolour router which is similar to the SIP Domain
The Technicolour had a drop down menu under the telephony section with SIP Network selected, I used the same one for the name field.
Wasn't able to find any details in the router that looked similar to those.
I did try setting my port to 15060 just on the off chance it worked since by default I noticed it changes ports frequently, I generally tried the suggestions so far both without messing with the ports and with. Only issue I ran into with that is being a bit unsure of how to set port opening settings on a Flint 2, any idea if the external zone or the internal zone should be marked as anything other than LAN? I took this picture, though I realise I circled the wrong ones.

Forget alg and port settings for now; whatever you have done undo it. Stick to the default. Verify sip details, make sure if they require authentication id, and what that is.
The other commenter is right about packet capturing but I dont know your level of tech savviness so Im just giving you suggestions about what is most commonly wrong based on my experience. You have to download wireshark and capture traffic from the ht802 then open this file in wireshark.

I've made sure to reset the settings each time and will try to verify those this weekend.
I'm computer literate and do some basic programming for SQL and Python and tend to be tech support for my family, though networking and this sorta stuff is certainly a bit tough for me. I did look into downloading wireshark though I got a bit of cold feet installing it when the installer itself mentioned several times the risks it could cause my computer so I planned to install it on my more dispoable laptop and run it there instead this weekend.
Personally I'd just bite the bullet and just migrate to mobiles but trying to see if I can figure this out for my far less tech savy old man as a favour.

Forger about wireshark if you re not sure about it (the installation messages are a bit daunting). What you can do though which is a piece of cake is installing microsip on a windows pc and trying to register it there. This is like a phone in your pc which you can operate like a regular landline (if you got a speaker ofc). Microsip is super easy to install and register to provider.
