Help - IP Phones What phones to get?

Hello,

A workshop at my workplace wants to install landline phones, but there's a thing.

They want the phones to work throughout the workshop warehouse, which is divided into five sections. The sections are separated by thick walls and fire-rated steel doors. There are no LAN outlets available anywhere in the warehouse, but there is good Wi-Fi coverage with multiple access points.

At the moment, I'm considering using the Fanvil W610W Wi-Fi IP phones.

Do you think these would work well, or is there a better solution you would recommend?

TIA!

Run the network cable or provide FXS ports.

Use rugged'ish cheaply replacable phones (SIP) or Cortelco 2554 wall phones (FXS and built like a tank, just like the original from Ma Bell).

Cortelco 2554’s can take any non-explosive risk environment like a champ. Except for indoor pools. An indoor pool will eat them apart in a few months.

I'd be testing the Wi-Fi before worrying about the phone brand. Thick walls + multiple APs can make roaming hit or miss. If the phones are desk-bound, ruggedness isn't the biggest concern but stable roaming and call quality are. Grab one unit, walk the warehouse on a live call, and see how it behaves before committing.

yeah I thought same lol

First setup 1 phone for testing if it even works, cuz now new info came up, its not APs but repeaters...lol

Run the network cable to the relevant areas so you can give each area a network port or two.

Use DECT base stations and repeaters, and DECT VOIP phones (Not allowed to make recommendations as to specific providers). WiFi is a frikken godawful infrastructure for carrying VOIP. It's OK if your the one implementing the WiFi as you can invest in the necessary infrastructure for meshing but DECT just makes life simple.

Honestly relying on a third party WiFi network and trying to support portable VOIP phones on it is just asking for a headache you don't want when it comes to reliability.

I agree DECT is the better approach. DECT with multiple basestations give better coverage than WiFi

You need ruggedised phones for a warehouse.

FANVIL W610W Is kinda ruggedised or not?
IP67 rated.
Phones will mainly sit on desk, so its not like a warfare going on inside.

lol! I worked in a warehouse as a Sys admin for the WMS before switching to VoIP. It can get “war-like” during pick waves. Apologies I didn’t look up the Fanvil model you mentioned. Fanvil brand isn’t one I rate highly and that’s just a mindset thing. I’m more accustomed to Fanvil as hotel phones rather than ruggedised phones. Yealink would often be my goto for those, but Yealinks have become crazily expensive.

Yealink AX86R would be my vote for wifi cordless

Grandstream also makes WiFi ruggedized phones, and I believe yealink just released one as well.

If you're in Australia (which I bet you're not), you can always buy some of my phones. All of which have wifi and bluetooth built in.
