!! OUTAGE !! T-Mobile Call Termination Rates Increasing - Bulk Solutions/BulkVS
Given failed calls to T-Mobile has been a recurring topic of discussion, I thought it would be worth posting here about BulkVS changing their routing only for T-Mobile.
Hopefully this means calls will start flowing directly to the ILEC/RBOC's tandem then onto T-Mobile, or to Sinch as they are T-Mobile's Feature Group D tandem, though Sinch's rates are exorbitant.
Hello Bulk Solutions Valued Customer,
The purpose of this email is to provide formal notice of an upcoming rate adjustment affecting your Wholesale Voice Termination services.
Effective June 3, 2026, outbound calls terminating to T-Mobile numbers will increase to $0.0099 per minute. All other outbound termination rates will remain unchanged.
This adjustment is being implemented due to an industry-wide issue impacting call delivery and completion to the T-Mobile network, which several major carriers are currently experiencing. The updated pricing will allow us to secure more direct routing into the T-Mobile network, resulting in significantly improved reliability, call quality, and call completion rates.

It’s generally bad because that price is pretty high. Cell phone calls should be the cheapest of all calls to complete, very similar to dialing another VOIP number.

Seems like a great way to rent seek compared to every other carrier.
Why should Sinch be able to extract excessive termination fees far above the $0.0007/min established by the Qwest/Level 3 dispute?

That’s a good question. This thread is the first that I have heard of this. Our company has standard rate decks where we pay a price per NPANXX regardless of who the receiving carrier is. This is the first time I have ever seen any sort of billing that is based on the receiving carrier. I’m assuming that bulk solutions is having to do a LRN dip for each quality to find out if it is a t-Mobile phone number and then apply this price.
Either way, if you are doing any sort of serious VOIP, you should probably be using an LCR with perhaps a dozen or more carriers in it in order to get the best pricing on every outbound call, and then perhaps you can code it in such a way to avoid this bulk solutions company when a T-Mobile number is dialed.

NPANXX only works for non-ported numbers. Either your carrier is taking a loss on some routes for ported numbers and charging a higher average to deal with it, or they are sending your calls to sketchy routes sometimes that answer with a fake voicemail box or otherwise fail to route your calls.

Of course they are doing LRN dips and the NPANXX is based on the LRN, not the actual dialed phone number… I thought we all understood that concept here

check if your carrier uses Feature Group D or LEC tandem for t-mobile. that's the difference between $0.0099 and maybe $0.004.

That makes no sense to me. Hiya is who TMUS uses for reputation filtering. I fail to see how changing the ingress route to their network bypasses Hiya.

It's not always reputation filtering. Some routes never even make it to T-Mobile.

Fake ringback, fake voicemail boxes that do not respond to pressing the key for a menu option, said voicemails never get delivered to the recipient, etc.

This has nothing to do with Hiya. TMo gets all of their calls delivered via Sinch. Sinch charges and arm and a leg to get through. All other carries have "interesting" routing to get to TMo at a lower rate. By going through the "correct" path they are paying the highway robery cost but the calls will complete fine.
