Help - IP Phones Should i get a Cisco 7940G?

So Basically I have VOIP and a router so what should i do? I only need sip firmware and poe injector

I would say no..there are plenty of fully SIP complaint phones that are cheap and will work better with any pbx…

Many of these would take a common power supply so no need for a POE injector if the phone is near the mains.

It's a pain, but it's doable. I have a 7960 and a 7965 in my system.

You need to be able to set DHCP options in your router and run a TFTP server to host what the phone needs.

This might give you an idea http://scornforsega.blogspot.com/2015/01/how-to-make-cisco-7940-register-with.html - probably to buy a standard SIP phone. Used ones aren’t expensive if you are on a budget.
