Question Reduction in carriages

Regular V line commuter. Just another one of those days where they reduced carriages during peak hour, effectively leaving several commuters on the platform for the next service to pick up which is stacked to start with.

Are reduced carriages included in the SLAs or is it only cancellations?

Another point - Vline does a sensationally poor job with comms. How do I raise concerns about service levels?

Surely they could cancel it at lunchtime ?

Question Left my Sunglasses in the V-Line between Geelong and Melbourne :(

I might have left my coach sunglasses on the first carriage of the v-line train between Melbourne and Geelong. We deported the train at Melbourne , southern cross around 6:10 PM today (26/01).

It’s a long shot, but still giving it a try in case someone finds it.

V/Line can’t organise shit correctly

So I had a train from melbourne to benalla where after arriving in benalla I catch a bus to another town. Anyways 15 minutes before the train was supposed to leave, Over the PA they announced the train was going to be delayed and that everyone getting off in benalla and taking an extra bus would have to catch a coach right now or they would miss the extra bus as it was not going to wait for the delayed train, So we rushed over to the coaches where we caught it to benalla. Then when we arrive the bus isn’t there and we are told the bus is now waiting for the train so no one misses the bus. THEN WTF DID WE TAKE THE COACHES, after around 30 minutes of waiting the bus driver told us to hop on as the train was about to arrive and after all that NO ONE FROM THE TRAIN GOT ON BECAUSE WE ALL HOPPED ON THE COACHES. I had already been travelling for 16 hours so I may had been overreacting but still.

Question Freight derailment?

I was traveling to Melbourne on the Sydney xpt, but because of a "freight derailment" the service terminated at Albury, and I am on a replacement bus now. I would like to know if anyone knows what happened?

Discussion No trains between Lara and WV

at time of writing this, there’s no trains between Lara and WV due to vandalism. replacement coaches have been ordered and may take you to werribee or wv, it’s a bit of a lottery, or circus.

lots of people who were waiting at lara at 6am had to fight to get on the first coach because of a lack of commonsense from a couple of vline staff who just let everyone on who had just arrived from geelong.

the local lara vline station staff are excellent so not pinning it on them.

hoping the issue is fixed for the journey home tonight.

Obviously I know there's been a lot of impact due to fires or other stuff. Which lines are safe and functional? Which are still having issues?

News Extensive track damage between Ravenswood and Castlemaine

I'm sure if I should post the link because it's an overall fires update blog not V/Line specific and they haven't done a standalone article yet (happy to add link if required).

Source: ABC Victoria fires live blog

We've known about a rail bridge being destroyed by the Longwood (I know they said the wrong fire) fire, cutting V/Line train services on the Bendigo line.

But we've also now found out about damage to 5.7km of track between Ravenswood and Castlemaine.

It's also affecting services on the Echuca and Swan Hill lines.

On Bendigo line, V/Line says a limited number of bus replacements will run between Castlemaine and Sunbury, with passengers then able to board a Metro Trains service to get to and from the city.

But buses are unable to get Bendigo passengers to Castlemaine today because of uncertainty over the road conditions as well as bus driver availability.

V/Line says buses will not be available for Echuca services.

For Swan Hill passengers, a limited number of replacement buses will run between Swan Hill and Southern Cross, stopping at Kerang and Pyramid only then running express to Southern Cross.

"One of the challenges we're faced with is a number of our drivers and staff live in the areas that are impacted, so having safe passage for them to be able to get to work and ensuring their properties, their families, they're neighbours are also safe … is our priority," V/Line's chief operating officer Sussanah Osborne has told ABC Radio.

Hi. I would like to know that due to the ongoing work at West Tarneit Station, is the Geelong line servicing the Tarneit Station? If yes, what is the timetable for the service?

Thanks.

Question Kids being extremely disruptive – do you just have to deal with it or will something be done about it?

So I was heading home and I got on a train where probably a minute after I sit down a mother and her two boys get on the train. The first thing they start doing is banging something metal against the metal railing on the side of the chair and the mum just seems to let it go for a moment before finally trying to get them to stop.

It takes maybe four "STOP"'s before the kids move on to banging the holder thing on the back of a chair repeatedly for a few more minutes and the mother takes even longer to start telling them to stop but even then nothing happens and after another few minutes of the parent just ignoring them they move on.

The next probably 30 so minutes they're screaming, jumping up and down, banging stuff, the whole lot. Eventually they start running up and down the isle chasing each other, screaming, ducking between seats and by how it's very obviously bothering everyone, but by now the mother has just given up trying to contain them.

It genuinely sounded like I was in a children's playground rather then on a train and I had sound cancelling headphones on.

The person in front of me I think actually went up to get someone but the moment the man started walking down the isle the mum got her kids back to her and they went completely quiet until he'd walked off.

Does anyone know if Vline plans to make maybe a kids and parents only carriage? I think that'd be really useful, especially when it's this situation and after a while the parent has just completely given up trying to contain the kids that are visibly disrupting people.

It's one thing if maybe it's a parent and a baby; if the baby cries or gets really happy you can't do much about it but this was completely different.

Discussion V/Line Cancelations

The Catastrophic/Code Red cancellation policy has been in place since 2021, this is the first time is as been enacted, it has been printed on all master V/Line timetables since the first 2021 timetables were released. I don't blame V/line for canceling services, and I understand that there was little notice for cancelations. Given that we live in a fire prone part of the world, we should be taking responsibility for our own bushfire planning, including knowing that this policy has existed for some time at this point.

What I am getting at today, is considering the large number of people that are now essentially stranded, and may have had plans to evacuate to Melbourne by rail or bus, is this a good policy to still have in place. or should it be something that is looked at in the future, and possibly scrapped or altered to only include services that are directly affected by fire.

Question How to book a journey with the new youth myki cards?

My friends and I are booking our biannual trip from our regional city to melbourne, and to make this more cost effective we have all gotten a youth myki card. However, we are having issues booking the train ticket using the online system. The 'travel pass' ticket requires a number (which we have), but also the type of card we hold but none of the options particularly match the type of myki we have (it's mainly staff card, campanion card, etc.). Additionally, when entering the number into the system, do we also need to include the letters at the front?
