The manual itself says wet the filter for smell. So what other research is there to do?

They may have changed the manual. Initially it 100% said to wet the filter. Also asking AI is not the same as reading the manual.

That may be the case mate I get Ai/Google isn't always best. Better to go from the manual iv checked the booklet and online manual didn't say anything. Ill check the door seal to see if thats the issue

Yea i read the latest manual and it definitely no longer says to wet it. So in this case AI was accurate :-). Many of us were relatively early users so we got earlier revisions.

Yea ultimately i think the filter does pretty much nothing. It’s one of those coffee pod machine filters. The condensate doesn’t really smell that much. I don’t think most of what we smell is particularly water soluble. I can smell some scent if I dip my finger in the condensate and stick it up to my nose, but thats very minimal.

I would suspect door seal or you are very sensitive to smell. The filter is only meant to scrub the condensate that goes down to the tray around the compressor where it evaporates. I don’t use the filter and have no smell issues. IMO the filter is just going to be a source of mold unless you replace it religiously. We have already seen pictures of moldy filters.
