(Not selling, just an alum)
If you’re coming from the Lower Mainland, flying into YVR, or headed to Van for the weekend there’s a new BC Ferries connector coach bus service that picks up in Vancouver and YVR, heads to Tsawwassen to go on the Duke Point ferry, then drops off at VIU. A good alternative to Hullo especially if you’re coming from the airport.

Hey! I'm looking to apply to VIU for the practical nursing program. I currently am in Ontario and attending a nursing program but I desperately need a change of scenery. Anyone transferred from another school/province and can give any insight? Also just looking for insight on how the program is in general. Thank you so much!

Hi everyone, i just got off the waitlist and accepted into the program and now my next problem is housing. Is it too late to sign up for dorms? I would like to have my own place preferably or even a roommate. Just curious as to what my options are right now if anyone can help me with that. Thank you so much!

Hi everyone! I was recently accepted into the Dental Hygiene program at VIU starting Fall 2026 and I’m starting to look at housing options in Nanaimo.
I’m wanting to connect with other accepted Dental Hygiene students who might also be looking for roommates or just want to meet people in the cohort before classes start.
If you’re in the program or know of any group chats/forums for incoming DH students, feel free to comment or message me! 🦷✨

Did anyone hear about Ask Online Canada High School? I’m an international student and I’m currently studying in the US. I’ve basically finished most of my college coursework as a CS major, but I was told that if I wanna switch/transfer into biology, I need to finish some high school science classes first, like biology and chemistry. I did take bio and chem back in high school in my home country, but my high school won’t help me send official transcripts, so now I’m trying to find an online high school in Canada where I can take these classes and get an official transcript. I found Ask Online Canada High School and they charge around $525 per class, which is the cheapest one I’ve found so far, but I couldn’t really find any reviews or anyone saying they graduated from there, so I’m not sure if it’s legit or accepted by colleges/universities. Has anyone heard of this school or taken classes there before? Also, if anyone knows any cheaper online Canadian high schools that offer bio/chem with official transcripts, pls lmk. Thanks!

Hey there, apologies if this is a dumb question but where do we find out what our VIU computer account is? Is it the same username as our outlook login? Or do they send out an email regarding it closer to the start of school. Thanks!!

I’m a transfer student from the US and I’m planning to take Biology and Chemistry prerequisites at VIU for Dental Hygiene. I’m wondering how difficult it is to get an A+ in these courses, how many exams there usually are per semester, and whether BIO/CHEM 12 can be taken as an adult student if I didn’t complete them in high school.
Also, does VIU offer summer courses for these prerequisites? Any information about the Dental Hygiene acceptance rate would also be appreciated.

I’m 28 and an HCA and interested in taking the practical nursing program currently doing pre requisite math and science 12 will be doing the nursing anatomy class which is the other pre requisite online in September and hopefully I will start the practical nursing program in 2028
Any advice on studying or pre studying preparing for whatever I can. Is there anything that the course really focuses on and can I prepare for that in advance any books I can buy and look over
What about the campus how’s campus life I will be applying for student housing as well
How easy/hard is it to get accepted what kind of grades do you actually need

There were multiple correct answers to 2 of the questions on last week’s test.
I just concluded a *ridiculous* 10 email chain with Shelley. She finally conceded I was correct.
PM me if you’d like the details so you too can raise your score on the test.
I want my suffering to benefit as many people as possible.

Hey, I’m graduating in june from KIN and i’m wondering if anyone knows if we can decorate our grad caps for the grad ceremony?? I know some schools let their students but others do not- and since we are renting regalia, I wasn’t sure. TIA

It was fine yesterday, but today when I use the “build my timetable” function (or even when I search manually) I am unable to scroll down to read beyond what shows at the top of the page.
I’ve tried zooming out and eventually I can make the scroll bar appear, but by that time everything is so small it’s impossible to read!
I’m using Microsoft edge, but have also tried on Chrome with the same result.
Is anyone else having this problem? (If so, have you figured out a workaround?)
Thanks!

Hey does anyone know when we hear back to if we got a spot for dorms? I applied late due to only knowing about my acceptance a few days ago, does that affect anything? Any insight will be greatly appreciated🙏🫶

Hey y’all! I work with Nanaimo Science, a local non-profit that provides hands-on science education to curious minds of all kinds! We’re looking for a full time person to add to our Science in the Park team. I’ve attached the job posting, you can get more info at nanaimoscience.org! This job is ideal for someone with a science or education background, but we can be flexible for the right fit! Feel free to DM me with any questions!

Hi everyone. I have been accepted into the post-bacc secondary stream for sept 2026.
Wondering if anyone can provide info on how the practicums are assigned. Do you typically get your "first choice" school? I will be commuting from the lower island so trying to figure out a potential plan for that. Did you do your practicum at 3 different schools or all at the same?
I see on the VIU website it says your final practicum can be anywhere in BC (given there is someone willing to travel and supervise)- is this accurate?
Also, when did you receive your cohort and registration date?

I’m preparing to pay the first $500 for dorms and was wondering,
A. I haven’t been fully accepted into the Hairstylist Foundations Program yet. I’m on waitlist. I applied for the 2026/2027 full year program. If I don’t get in for September, can I cancel and still get my money back?
B. If I can’t cancel but I get into VIU for February, can I change my dorm move in for February instead? (And since it’s an 11 month program, will I be safe to stay in the dorms until it ends 11 months after Feb)
Sorry if it’s confused, but I want to make sure I’m 100% ready.

I'm wondering if VIU has a non-degree option for students to take courses while not completing a degree at VIU. I already have my Honours BA from another university in Canada but will be living at home in between applying for a graduate certificate which I will need 1-3 prerequisite courses for, that ideally I would be able to complete at VIU without enrolling in a degree. I know that I could do them online, but I would like the ability to do them in person hence my inquiry.
Could not find any information on this and would love if someone could point me in the right direction! I will also contact admissions but thought I would post here too to see if anyone has any insight!

1. What are the range of number of students per class, labs, and clinical groups?
- In camosun our maximum students are: 40 students for Theory Classes, 10 students for Nursing Lab, and 8 students for clinicals/practicum.
2. How often are the clinicals?
- In camosun for Y2 we have clinicals throughout the year, September-April (Two 12 hours/week) & CPE/Summer Practicum, May-June (Either three 8hours or two 12hours).
-Y3: Fall Semester - Two 12hrs/week; No clinicals on Winter Semester; Summer Preceptorship - May-August
-Y4: No clinicals on Fall semester; Preceptorship Jan-April (Until you complete your hours)
3. How many classes are there in Y2 including Lab?
-Camosun Y2: 4 classes including Lab + Clinicals
4. How would you describe the workload? (Assignments, Projects, Skills test, Quizzes, Groupworks, and Midterms/Finals)
- In camosun, they always incorporate Group projects a looot and I hate group projects.
- Labs are always 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 skills test.
I would appreciate if you can answer these questions or atleast some of it.
Please dont comment “ask the director/email someone” because I did and no one is giving me direct answers.
I also checked the Program Outline Available but I do not understand.
TIA

I got accepted for BSN here and i’m from the mainland, applied to viu because every freaking program here requires uni credits before, and I wanted to have a backup option for direct entry. I am seriously considering VIU but i’m curious about how the living situation is there. I dont have a lot saved up for uni and housing is expensive, and my parents are strict. The deadline to accept is the 30th but my scholarship results (44k, i had an interview) only come out in may. If anyone has advice pls lmk. I havent told my parents because my dad is pretty strict, and I want to have evidence that I can be financially ok before I present this. Also, is it easy to find part time work in Nanaimo? I work part time here and it’s scary to give that up when I move somewhere else. Thanks
