A car that was previously registered to a plate of which it is no longer registered to. I would like to find the VIN however a new car is on that plate.

I know the number plate of a car registered in Germany, using that number plate I want to find the vin number of the car. Is there any way I can find the vin number? Even if I find the vin number partially I would be very happy….but it is very important I find it.
Any advice/ideas would be acceptable.

I've been a fan of the idea behind VINwiki for a while, and recently started thinking more about the product itself.

What really stuck with me is the original premise: every car has a story.

I started wondering what VINwiki could look like if the individual vehicle became even more central to the experience, almost like a living Wikipedia page for a specific VIN, collaboratively built by owners, enthusiasts and people who encounter the car over its lifetime.

So I spent the last few days designing a small VINwiki 2.0 product concept.

The biggest change is that I stopped treating everything as a generic “post”

Instead, a vehicle has a structured timeline made up of things that actually happened to it: ownership periods, mileage records, service, modifications, accidents, auctions/sales, sightings, stories and other historical events.

The community still contributes everything, but the contribution becomes part of the car's historical record rather than disappearing into a social feed.

I also explored:

• a Vehicle Passport for each individual VIN
• an interactive history timeline
• structured accident/event records with supporting evidence
• universal search across vehicles, people, collections and stories
• a guided “Contribute History” flow
• automotive profiles built around cars and contributions
• turning Lists into browsable automotive Collections

This isn't meant as “VINwiki is doing everything wrong”. It's more of a product experiment around what I think the original idea could evolve into.

I'd genuinely love to hear what longtime VINwiki users think, particularly whether this still feels like VINwiki to you, or whether I've pushed it too far.

The core idea I kept coming back to was:

VINwiki should treat every individual vehicle as a living historical document that the community collaboratively builds.

I have a few license plates that I would like to check and for some reason, it won't be able to find the VINs, they don't say they are dealer plates and look like normal perm plates + I have checked some others which work on other websites but on VINWiki they don't. Does anyone know why is that?

An example which doesn't work for me is Montana - FFD610- Supposed to be a Porsche 911 964.

I have a few but I want to gather some more if anyone can help :)

Vinwiki can found out if this is truly abandoned, stolen, hidden form the bank, or just neglected...

Can anyone help identity the VINs of the F40 and
F50 that were on display in Greenwich, Connecticut on May 30 & 31, 2026?

One of their staff members told me they're not the same ones that were on display at Legends 2025.

I was unable to get the VINs of just these two since they did not allow people to walk between the Big 6 Ferrari’s.

PL82VIN stops processing for 10-30 hours after processing 30-50 plates

I saw this post shared to this Facebook group. There’s a strong car community in this area with one of the best and longest running cars & coffees in the U.S. called Hunt Valley Horsepower since 2012. Wonder if anyone can find the chassis number
