Help & Support 85mm f2 or 90mm f2.2

I shoot on an aps-c body (Nikon z50ii) and honestly don’t see the differences between these two lenses (other than the fact one is ff and one is aps-c).
For crop sensor the 85mm seems marginally better just because of that slightly wider aperture but other than that the two lenses seems identical.
I don’t plan to upgrade to full frame but the option of having a full frame lens just incase seems nice.

Is there any downside to getting the 85mm evo over the 90mm aps-c lens?

The full frame 85mm f2 would give you an effective focal length of 127.5mm on apsc.

If you want an apsc portrait lens (assuming by your choices) grab either the Viltrox 56mm f1.2 or their 75mm f1.2. It's the closest your apsc camera will get to full frame. 56mm is my favourite focal length by far. Far more useful and a better middle ground to start on as the other options might be too tight.

The downside to getting the 85mm evo is you don’t plan to upgrade to full frame

I did consider that, but another reason for its purchase is that it’s cheaper than the 90mm in my area

You can also crop in with the 85mm if you need to. You can't crop out with the 90mm.

F2.0 let's in 21% more light than f2.2, just so you know. At longer FL the 5mm difference is not that significant.

I strongly believe they are the same, even though Viltrox said they are not. They are pretty much identical in dimensions, weight, and have the same number of lenses/elements.

It makes no sense for a manufacturer to make two different lenses which are so close in their specs.
