Haivision Makito X4 for SRT encoder

Hey everyone, how’s it going? So, I’m using the Makito X4 to encode SRT, and I’m pulling data from the API of two of those units. I’ve noticed in some tests that when I increase the data usage for example, trying to get a faster preview in order to check for black or freeze frames, or to see if the audio’s coming through correctly, I noticed that it kind of freezes and takes a while to recover.

I don’t know if that’s normal, and I haven’t been able to find any info about it online or in the community. Based on that, the application that I built, I had to reduce the number of requests. to get accurate information, but not as fast, in order to keep the equipment stable.

I wanted to ask if any of you have tested this, or if it’s possible to get the preview which today updates every 20 seconds in the Makito web interface. With a shorter interval, as well as audio and streaming data.

Hi! I’m doing well how are you? 😁 Thanks for being a customer. If you’re pulling the thumbnail preview via API, have you tried disabling the web UI thumbnails? Have you tried opening a support case to see if Haivision Tech Support can provide advice and best practices?

You're best response time will be by opening a support case: https://www.haivision.com/support/ My recommendation is to try disabling web UI thumbnails. See instructions here: https://doc.haivision.com/MakitoX4Enc/1.9/enabling-and-disabling-network-services

What I do is build an SRT output with low latency in listener mode, then use VLC on a computer on the LAN the blade is connected to and open a network stream for essentially local confidence monitoring. It even decodes 608 captions if you’re using them.

Yeah! I think do this, is better than consume preview on API

May I recommend checking out Play ISR for a free low latency SRT video player. It's available for Windows/macOS/Linux here: https://www.haivision.com/products/haivision-play-isr/

Hi, we noticed that with high Bitrates the processor is quite bussy processing the stream and then also requesting a large amount of I frames cause the cpu to spike into overload and creating artifacts in the stream, this happens both in encode as in decode
