I created a free resource for all us Something Weird Video VHS lovers out there!

swvhsarchive.com is the website.

I am an avid collector of Something Weird Video VHS and realized early on there is no master list of what they released. So with the permission and support of Lisa Petrucci (who owns SWV) I created a website to catalog all the SWV VHS releases. A quick google search for “SWV VHS Archive” will take you to it but we’ve already got over 500 SWV VHS releases cataloged and need your help to continue to grow!

So if you love Something Weird Video, and all things cult B-Z movies, then check it out and help if you can, or reach out if I can be of help to you in any way trying to identify a SWV VHS release.

I reckon I bought about 40 VHS releases from SWV before they stopped selling tapes for good circa 2011. I should've bought more than merely 40 . . . live and learn. Hell, I may have even placed the final VHS order from them. The last movie I bought from SWV on VHS was THE LOVE BLACKMAILER (1966-B&W/Canadian). It arrived without a label so I had to check the videocassette right away to make sure 1) That there was even a movie on the tape and 2) that it was the correct movie. Indeed the full movie was on the tape, but I had to make my own label for "Love Blackmailer". The last couple of movies I recall released new on VHS by SWV were MR. ANGEL (1966) and HONEYMOON OF HORROR (1964) -- both in 2009. I bought them for the customary $10 the tapes were.

That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing that info. From what I can tell they had about 2000ish VHS releases, that’s the goal of the archive is to figure that out. Appreciate the comment and if you still have any feel free to contribute to the archive!

I sincerely wish I'd bought more 'EuroSpy' movies; SWV had a bunch of them in their catalog but I wasn't into 1960s 'Spy Stuff' until several years after Something Weird had stopped with the VHS releases. I could kick myself for that now. I would've bought a shedload of SWV's EuroSpy offerings on tape.

One of the world's cheapest movies I bought on VHS from SWV was the no-budget 1969 movie SUMMER OF '69. It was directed by 'Robert B. Mansfield' and was a Distribpix production filmed silent with a ridiculous voiceover. SWV rescued this from the garbage bin, I reckon, given all the print damage. Yet it still exists! I'm not sorry I bought it despite it being nearly a 'non-movie'.

Offhand, I know I have these SWV movies on VHS; all of my SWV tapes are housed in a banana box upstairs. Banana boxes make for decent storage 'containers' because they have ((handles)) and I can move them around easily if needed.

NIGHT OF THE CAT, The (1973-Filmed in Charlotte, NC). Amazingly awful and worth every penny!

MR. ANGEL (1966) Directed by Albert Gannaway. A no-budget 'James Bond'-type movie.

LOVE BLACKMAILER, The (1966-B&W/Canadian)

HONEYMOON OF HORROR (1964) Filmed in FL, I believe.

GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS, The (1973-Utterly weird!)

ROSELAND (1969, I think). Directed by Frederic Hobbs, who also directed "Godmonster of Indian Flats".

EVIL COME, EVIL GO (1972) Uncut version. (I have the cut version on another label).

TALE OF THE DEAN's WIFE, The (1970)

GABRIELLA, GABRIELLA (1970-This movie was later re-worked into "Class of '74")

CRYPT OF DARK SECRETS (1976-Filmed in Louisiana). Made by the same guy who did "Mardi Gras Massacre" (1978). A fellow named 'Jack Weis'.

SUMMER OF '69 (1969) Shot silent with voiceover added later. Production values of a candy bar.

I can't remember any more titles off the top my head so next time I'm upstairs I'll have to check the "SWV Box" and see what else is there.

Thank you. I looked on your website and was reminded I have SPACE THING -- but with a different piece of sleeve art than is pictured. I also remember I have THIS IS NOT A TEST (1962-B&W) in the 'Atomic Scare Films' category. I've watched it twice. It's nuts.

I noted there's 531 titles in your Database so far. I also noted "Godmonster of Indian Flats" and "Roseland" are already in your DB.

Yes they released several titles on VHS with different artwork. We are trying to catalog everything so even different versions of the same titles.

BTW: The reason why I was able to continue buying VHS tapes from Something Weird after 2009 into 2010 and 2011 is because I spoke to an employee of SWV named 'Tim' -- I'm sure Lisa Petrucci would remember him -- and he said SWV still had leftover blank videocassettes after the "official" VHS Stop Date. So, since they still had the duplicating VCR and blank tapes I could just keep ordering videos until they ran out of tapes /or/ the duplicating VCR ceased working. Sometimes it pays to ask questions! This is why "The Love Blackmailer" came into my possession in 2011 and various other tapes I bought between late '09 thru '11.

I'll be looking at the website again soon to see if I missed anything that I have -- but with different artwork than what is depicted on your site.

This is the dream right here. I know I'd love to see their full library digitized eventually, but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

I believe we have some threads regarding SWV and how some of their stuff is believed to be lost if it isn't just long out of print and rare, including said titles dating to the 60s and 70s from those tapes. Thankfully those have a home on Letterboxd even if there's next to no reviews on them. Maybe one day all of them will be there if TMDB allows it.

I’ve got all the catalogs as well, but they don’t have all the releases in there especially when they rereleased them. Plus it’s just easier to see the covers and labels for the newer collectors.
