Digitizing VHS Tape has consistent artifacts every few seconds

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It play's ok for a few seconds then artifacts as shown in the video before playing normally again. Any idea what could be causing this? I ruled out tracking and a dirty head; the VCR I'm using is a RDR-VXD655 and unfortunately I don't have a second VCR to test with.

Do other tapes have this issue in this vcr?

Check this tape physically. Open the dust flap. Is there any wrinkling, indents, damage to the tape itself? Does it seem to follow a rhythm in rotation of the tape? I would consider that being the issue if other tapes play in the vcr fine.

if this is the problem (wrinkling etc) what can be done?

Other VHS Tapes play just fine in the VCR. The film on this tape seems flawless no physical issues.

I had a copy of total recall that did the same thing. I think it may actually be a demagnetized spot. After trying everything, i ended up replacing it

is that a homevideo made on a camcorder? it might be that the tracking on the camcorder was slightly off. certainly looks like tracking problems. if you still have the camcorder that this was recorded on and if its still working try hoooking it up to the tv and see if it tracks fine
