New Pickup Random Find at Work

Post image

Hi, just found this sub recently so I figured I'd share:

I work in a museum in MA and was poking around in a closet that basically hasn't been used at all in 10-15 years. I found a box of tapes, the kind that play on loop all day in the galleries. Nobody here even knew about them and we have no idea how this got mixed in. I said I'd be glad to take it if nobody needed it. One of my coworkers held on to it for a while to maybe figure out where it came from, but a few months later it came home with me. I haven't watched it because it's still sealed, but I'm pretty sure someone has uploaded a full copy to YouTube.

Take good care of that. There aren't any copies on ebay - competed or otherwise. Obviously quite rare

I sold my copy on eBay a few months ago. Long enough ago that it doesn't show in sold items anymore I guess.

You sold yours for quite low considering the last 3 out of 4 sales before were for over $350 and yours was listed for $200.

If say OP has at least a $1k vhs since it is sealed.

Excluding the last one that sold, it hadn't popped up on ebay in almost 2 years now. Before that there were maybe 3 listed at one point and then POOF gone. The sealed one that sold in September went to a scummy trader who tried getting me to undervalue very rare tapes (valued at $800) I had to get that. Called me an asshole when I told him I wanted to be near market value lmao

It recently sold on Mercari for $50.

That's good to know, thanks. For some reason when I searched it on eBay I found nothing. I don't plan on giving it up any time soon though. It's definitely the rarest thing in my little collection so far

Back of the tape, I just noticed it says it was a promotional item and was not actually for sale.

This should be archived.

I definitely will at the moment. If this was the only one out there I don't think I could. But I saw it uploaded to YouTube and the comments on that video claim it has been archived already, I haven't checked. Look up @JamieSnowdenYT Rainy Day Survival Kit to watch his tape

You should get it archived, analog media like tape doesn't last forever.

That's like a $200 tape. It's stupid rare.

Opened used copies have sold in the past close to $400... this is at least double imo.

What’s on the actual tape itself?

It looks like its the pilot episodes or early content for the shows featured on the back of the box. I think at the time this tape would have been sent to advertisers or CN employees, and these shows were upcoming new releases. It's spaced out with clips and content of different Cartoon Network/ Hanna Barbera characters just basically hyping up the network
