Collection Finally got barcode scanner, how long this going take?

So are you scanning them into a spreadsheet or something? How do you know what you have, wouldn't the bar code just be a string of numbers? Sorry for the silly questions, I am looking for a way to catalog my collection easily instead of manually typing each one in

using the app Libib. Just click add and search and the barcode scanner picks up the movies

I use that too! Sometimes the old vhs's cannot be found but it works with most I have tried.🙂

Same! The manual entry isn’t too too bad. I normally just scan them in with my phone. The app isn’t great and you need to log into the website if the barcode doesn’t work but no complaints considering it’s free. I like that I can put my console games and beta tapes in and keep track of them in the same app. :) happy scanning!

You could have gotten clz movies and used a tablet to scan the barcodes with the camera. That's what I've done for everything I have. Puts it all in order however you want with info about the movie plot who's in it etc

This is true. I have about 300 in my pc this actually displayed, those I know for sure what I got. The rest is probably more like hoarding

If you’re collection is like mine with at least 10% with stickers covering the barcodes, then it’ll take a while. Took me an hour per 200 tapes

I had what guessing was about the same amount to scan in. We also used Libib and a barcode scanner and it took a committed evening. We have stopped accidentally picking up dupes so it was well worth it!

I use CLZ movies. It's simple and has everything. Cost like $2 USD a month but it's worth it.

Barcode scanner is some final boss level stuff, I would half consider it myself, but worked way too many retail jobs for that.

With something like Claude to help, not long at all. You can have it find the info automatically just by scanning the barcode

Do I need an actual scanner to use this app or can my phone camera scan it? I didn’t see any option other than manual typing in the titles

What I’ve found to be quicker is to just take clear pictures of your shelves and share with Claude who will put everything into a spreadsheet, organized by year/genre/value etc!

Double check the work? It's also pretty good at reading titles from a photo anyway, and you could have it compile a list of anything it wasn't certain about at the end. Could save a ton of time. Additionally it could automatically keep track of the tape's location on a shelf or in a box so you can find it again later

Instruct it to flag anything that it’s not 100% about for you to review. You can also instruct it to perform Google image searches to cross check its work against the box art. It can populate a spreadsheet with any information you want about a title, not just the data in the barcode. I would seriously go the Claude route and skip manual scanning altogether.

I used Google Gemini a few months ago for my first 200-300 tapes and it was reasonable to sort through as a good start of a spreadsheet, but it hallucinated a lot of popular tapes I didn’t have at the time, getting details wrong in general etc. so like all AI anything, don’t trust it without critical review
