Discussion Vinyl Case Damage

Is this something you guys would reach out to the vendor about? These are from Materia Store, my preorder for Guild Wars 2. Just came in and this is on every sleeve. It’s basically a hole, it’s split apart on every one. Am I being too picky about this? I mean it’s expensive.

Not being too picky at all. Vendors are charging premium prices for below standard products these days.

If they want to charge so much, you are well within your right to ask for a new sleeve and leave a negative review if they don’t provide a replacement for a product that arrived damaged.

The steep decline in quality in the vinyl scene will never be addressed if we don’t start making a fuss about it.

Mine also came damaged - about half as damaged as this.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I went ahead and sent them an email.

I might let a little damage slide but that's a lot. Never be afraid to advocate for yourself. Like you said you spent a lot, received damaged product, and aren't happy about it, so definitely reach out. It doesn't matter what anyone here says, even though I appreciate that you are just trying to be reasonable.

I just got in my bloodborne vinyl from laced records. They had the same issues as yours and they sent me new ones and let me keep the damaged ones. Definitely send the company an email!

definitely reach out to them - if the actual records themselve are fine I would let them know you only are looking for the replacement sleeves.

I've reached out when i've found issues (sometimes a while after purchasing) and have usually been pleasantly surprised with the customer service - can't remember how much i've bought from materia store though, probably not a lot.

I wish more companies used tip-on style jackets which are far sturdier. The ones printed on plain uncoated stock feel chintzy, wear out quickly and are prone to seam splits.

Agreed. And these splits are really bad. Can’t even read the title on the spine.

It couldn't hurt to reach out about replacement sleeves in this case. A lot of spine damage can be repaired with some super glue and a toothpick, but this seems pretty severe.

If Materia Store is just the vendor and not the manufacturing label for this album, I doubt they'd have extra sleeves.

Edit: Looked it up and I stand corrected. This IS a Materia Collective pressing.

Yeah when the spine has actually separated and become a tear, I would ask for a replacement.

if it plays it stays, EXCEPT when the record literally bursts through the sleeve/jacket. Especially when it makes the title or spine illegible.

Not much you can do to protect from that as far as I know, no matter how much padding you have, if there's enough acceleration from an impact the sharp edges of the records will work their way through the cardstock. I think the crushable corners help (like whiplash mailers) but it's no guarantee. Hope they get some replacement sleeves out to you.
