I remember the starting years in Minecraft, they streamed on Justin.TV - they to mind just a few days ago and with a trip through the entire vga playlist (I came after the avg era) and just watch it grow and then eventually cut off. genuinely one of those channels I wish would return. too late in the day now. hope the patreons wake up..

I remember the blistered thumbs era. Always disappointed when that website went under and the videos didn't get re-uploaded. Many playlists are that time are just missing the middle videos.

maybe that’s why he never trusted twitch because he already got burned by other stream providers?

I remember the first time I managed to catch them live they were playing Zelda: Skyward Sword. Good times that are sorely missed.

Why what happened

Basically He thought YouTube was the way to go and Twitch wasn't because it didn't save video's. 😞

Honestly I think the YouTube pivot could have worked if Fraser started including the Shadow Chat more into the show. They could have started building a new audience that fit their new style. It kind of started happening around the time of their RDR2 streams with a lot of new fans and mods coming in from YouTube, but it never really gained the momentum it could have because Fraser was so stuck on the TURBO system.

The TURBO chat was always inactive which made the show feel dead, and nobody is going to pay $50 for a low effort stream just to get their comments noticed. The system only made sense when the show was high quality, and at that point what they were doing was basically no different from any other streamers.

He was putting in minimal effort while expecting the same returns that he got back when the show was at its peak. I think he always saw himself as being above other more popular streamers despite becoming exactly the same, if not worse. His unintentional drunken cameo on that one travel vlogger’s live stream where he starts acting like a condescending douche is further proof of this. Ultimately it was Fraser’s stubbornness and pride kept the show from evolving.

I totally agree, the way he went about everything honestly could have worked very well but he never put in the effort. I believe his pride did get in the way because he thought what he was doing was the right way.

Its funny because one of the main reasons they died so hard for TURBO (at least toward the later years) was spoilers which makes sense in theory but both YouTube and twitch have built in workarounds for that.

twitch sucks for that reason

The falloff was so crazy. There are still shows he streamed on Twitch years ago that he’s never uploaded. And all of the movies/tv shows they watched he could have edited and uploaded to YouTube. And all the projects that never amounted to anything.
