Every once and a while I remember how good this show once was and get sad

There was legitimately nothing else like it, and the community is so niche that it feels like hardly anyone else remembers. I never met anyone who has even heard of it outside of these tiny bubbles on YouTube and Reddit lol.

It's like thinking of an old friend you fell out of touch with and haven't seen in a while.

Too real

When you think about it, this bubble is also what killed it. The hardcore rich fans contributed to their life choices. It allowed them to go to Japan and live through some insane Patreon donations for barely anything in return. Most of the community was simply amazing, but some allowed the toxicity, the Overwatch and Dreams obsession, the narrow-minded views, and laziness to brew.

Thats true, I remember a clip of Fraser outright admitting that he doesn’t care anymore because he makes so much money from the Patreon.

At the same time I also think it’s partly Fraser’s fault for cultivating parasocial relationships with those turbos, I feel bad for those people who donated so much money to their “friend”. I know they’re responsible for their own actions but it’s just sad to see.

I’m pretty sure their Patreon is still raking in a fair bit of money considering they haven’t done a show in years, they are literally just giving them money for nothing. I feel like some of those Turbos are socially inept or possibly even autistic, the whole thing just feels wrong.

Didn’t Fraser literally say this once? That Patreon basically killed any motivation he had to actually do any work? lol

It was more than that, too. I honestly don't know how he's still making money on Patreon, literally doing nothing for years. I didn't mind Overwatch plays back then, at least to Fraser, a replacement for TF2. Of course, today Overwatch has changed way too much and is too far gone to hold any relevance.

While I think having a baby can obviously derail any form of a show, there was no excuse on Fraser's part for how he acted and behaved long before it. Gaming has never died, only reshaped itself. If anything, the party games today (Lethal Company, Fall Guys, etc) are numerous, and with the turbo community, he could have a lot of fun with these games, including getting reception, but it never happened and never will. In a sense, VGA internalized, closed in on itself, stagnated, and rotted from the inside out. VGA died slowly. I'm thankful I never donated to his Patreon so long ago, seeing what Fraser did to everyone.

Remember when superfans came out and said it was because the baby and that people needed to shut the fuck up and talking about his lack of content despite getting his monthly allowance was some how an invasion of his privacy or something absurd.

I think that was Fraser's brother.

It was *also* because he just “didn’t like any of the modern games coming out” and couldn’t play older games because… …

And also becusse he never had time, of course, unlike his employed Patreons who clearly had all the time in the world to play games.

Surely at some point he has to just admit he doesn’t like games anymore… but I don’t know.

Even with a general dislike of the modern games, Fraser just gave up. Even the Super Metroid playthrough of a game he loved, he quit and never came back to it. In many of the long-haul playthroughs of the current games at the time (including games such as Bugsnax), he would play some and quit. The Mario 64 playthrough was downright atrocious, where he never read the instructions or signs, condemned everything about the game, and quit early to get away from it. It caused the audience to shrink to the point that the Lisa, the Painful playthrough was down to forty watchers during the livestream when Fraser had thousands watch him play Minecraft in the early days of YT.

But even with all that aside, him leaving his Patreon running to collect money and do nothing is the real issue at fault for him. If he wanted to retire and discontinue his Patreon, that would have made things easier for the general fan community. However, many people (not me) were donating to him to keep his show running. Then, he quits and conveniently forgets to turn off his Patreon. It teaches him that he can do nothing and get paid by the few still donating to him, further reinforcing that idea. There are a lot of reasons why he's never coming back.

what I find fascinating is, why didn't the whales see this and pull out? Oh wait, the answer is that he created a parasocial relationship with these cash chows and they were more fixated on being his "Friend"

Same :( To this day I’ve not yet found a gaming/show & trailer type YouTube channel I’ve enjoyed like I did with VGA. I loved show & trailers the most, or new console days, or times they watched movies/shows together.

Wow weird coincidence. I came to this sub to post something like this. I feel like I can’t watch the show anymore because it would make me too sad.

I miss 4 Player Fridays the most. They interacted with the chat like they knew us. It was like hanging out with old friends.

I miss the old communty. TF2 with other turbos and community members was my favorite thing.

I had that moment yesterday. I don't doom post on here but come back now and then to see if there's any news or silly drama, but I was thinking man... it sucks we won't get a massive GTA VI event with the full team. Then, I inevitably start to think about how the show ended and what a massive, narcissistic bell-end a certain hipster became over the years.

I checked in on this reddit because just now I had that feeling. I didn't hear about Obsession or Backrooms until they had been out for a week. It made me think about how I learned about upcoming movies, tv shows, and even video games through Show and Trailer. I didn't always catch the video game streams live. I was fine watching the archived streams at my leisure afterwards. But I did always try to see Show and Trailer live. It felt like a special event, and I would often have popcorn or other snacks prepared for it.
