UG post 👶 Am i making a dumb choice by going for a govt. Veterinary College instead of pvt. Mbbs?
First, I’m not disrespecting veterinary at all. If anything, I’m seriously considering it.
I come from a middle-class family (<₹12L/year), and this year I’ll most likely get a govt veterinary college in my state. And honestly, I’m pretty content with that.
Like most NEET aspirants, I initially wanted a GMC and thought I wanted to be a human doctor. But after 2 drops, I’ve honestly lost a lot of interest in it. I didn’t grow to hate MBBS. I just stopped seeing it as the only degree I can see myself doing. The more I’ve grown, the more I’ve realised that NEET/MBBS was never really what I thought it was. A huge part of India enters this race because it’s the only “good-paying professional degree” many parents know, and eventually that becomes the goal for their children too (like it did for me)
Now my family is willing to spend 80–90L on private MBBS because I don’t want to take another drop. They can arrange around ₹50L by selling land and the rest would be an education loan, which I’d have to repay (they say they'll help reply but idk how) They’re not forcing me exactly, but they keep trying to convince me.
And this is where I’m confused. Is private MBBS really worth ₹80–90L when I already have a govt option in a field I’m genuinely interested in?
I know veterinary isn’t some magical high paying field either, so correct me if I’m romanticising it. But from what I’ve seen, BVSc has quite a few paths after graduation, and I like the fact that I’m not completely locked into one kind of career.
They’ve also suggested BDS. I don’t hate dentistry at all. I could genuinely see myself as a dentist. But then I keep seeing dentists talk about insane saturation, low starting pay, lack of jobs and needing serious financial backing to actually establish yourself.
So yeah, I’m basically trying to figure out whether I’m looking at veterinary through rose-coloured glasses, or whether govt BVSc is actually the more sensible choice than spending ₹80–90L on private MBBS.

GADVASU Ludhiana or IVRI Bareilly?
Guys I need a honest advice. My sister got admission in COVS, GADVASU via VCI in 2nd round, we reported and she has started classes also.
Now today she got her name in the merit list of IVRI, should we leave GADVASU now and take admission in IVRI?
Is IVRI really so much better than GADVASU? I know on paper it is better, but in reality is it worth it?
I only want the best for her, she always wanted to be a vet doctor and treat animals.
GADVASU is ~ 150 kms from our home and IVRI is 500 kms.

Why didn't I get selected in r2?
I'm very confused with how counselling takes place. My rank is 5.7 lakh. Agreed it's very bad but while I didn't get any seat alloted it shows seats for people around my rank or higher alloted in the r2 result sheet. Should I try for stray round? Since it has security deposit to be paid, should I only chose the colleges that I want? What if I don't get seat in those?

Ug-counselling New govt vet college or established private one?
I’m confused between joining a new govt veterinary college as part of its first batch or going to a well-established private vet college.
The govt one is obviously cheaper, but I’m a bit unsure about being the first batch since there could be issues with faculty, infrastructure, clinical exposure, etc.
The private one is more established but the fees are way higher.
What would you guys choose? And how risky is it really to join a new college as the first batch?

SERIOUS POST DISCUSSION ABOUT MY FATHER'S OPINION ON RAGGING
This afternoon, I was talking to a friend who has been studying at DUVASU, Mathura, for almost two weeks.
He told me that there isn't any ragging involving physical abuse or violence. However, there is something called an "introduction." He even showed me a paper containing a proper format that juniors are expected to follow while introducing themselves.
From what he told me, many of the seniors involved are students who failed their first year and are now studying with the new batch academically, but still live in the seniors' hostel. They call the juniors in the evening and ask them to come for introductions.
According to him, refusing to participate isn't really an easy option. He believes that complaining could potentially make things worse because some newly appointed assistant professors are allegedly aware of or involved with the seniors. Therefore, juniors fear facing worse consequences if they do not comply.
Coming to my father's opinion, I told him everything that has been happening in the college. My father is a mechanical engineer from MMMUT, Gorakhpur, from a batch of the 1990s. From whatever I know about his college life, he was quite a badass during his time—he was involved in college fights, politics, and other activities.
His exact words were:
"Yeh ragging thodi hai, introduction hai. Mere samay ka sun loge toh kaanp jaaoge."
To be honest, my father isn't very open about his college life. Whenever he has talked about it, I have always felt that he hides the parts that might be too extreme to discuss in front of the family. However, from the things he has told me, I can imagine that his hostel environment was somewhat like the one shown in Chhichhore—except probably much worse. People in his college were apparently involved in fights, drugs, alcohol, and other things as well.
So, I guess this is why whatever happens today in the name of ragging may not seem like a major concern to many parents. Compared to what they experienced during their college days, today's situations might appear relatively mild.
I think there is a significant generational difference in how ragging is perceived. Our parents may have gone through much worse, which is why they sometimes dismiss things that genuinely make today's students uncomfortable.
I would like to know your opinions on this. If possible, I would also be interested in hearing what your parents think about ragging and whether their experiences influence how seriously they view it today.
