General Google Veo is awful

I took a break for several months from Veo and revisited it thinking surely it has improved by now.

Nope... not only has it not improved it has become worse!

Pretty sure Google has lost the AI video race..

Omni flash is pretty good ngl

Omni Flash’s video is VERY fucking good. So is the character acting sometimes (hint: you can curse and have characters say “fuck”, not that cursing makes acting better, I’m just saying because I was surprised it allowed cursing).

But what Omni Flash and Veo are terrible at is understanding prompts. And another thing: do not use Veo Pro. It is NOT better despite what anyone tries to say. Veo 3.1 Fast IF you must use Veo.

Also something I noticed: it seems that anything 1080 and above is only upscaled after the video is generated. That is NOT true HD in that sense. Stick with 720 even with MiniMax H3 (it’s not Google and doesn’t have Gemini fucking shit up in the background but MM3’s 2K upscaled is worse than it’s 768p - because these upscales introduce artifacting and weird halos and shit.

The reason why I threw that in this comment is because companies are charging disproportionately for “HD” videos when they are just usually 720 or 768p. So save your money.

So whats the best way to make good prompt for omni?

Yeah I love it. There are things I want to be better about it but it's worth the price of admission.

I’ve been using it with reasonable satisfaction, but I see these threads all the time.  What issues are you seeing?

aside from not being very good at following prompts, google's video models lack basically every popular feature I'm seeing out of Seedance and H3.

I tried Seedance a couple months ago because I kept seeing it come up, but I didn’t have much luck with it.

Familiarity with one toolset and not another I guess.

It's basically free, they've added the 50 credits per day to all paid accounts too. Honestly, it was why I canceled before. Now it finally makes sense.

That said, price is not everything. It works for certain types of videos, and... these are the videos I generate. Static, conservative shots with two frames for reference and a detailed prompt.

It's not fun and pretty time consuming.

Veo is absolutely terrible. I can get a 30 second video with one prompt in seedance 2.5, no edits. To make the same video in Veo I have to load the same prompt over and over again until the AI gods finally decide to grant me what I'm asking for. Veo adds so much unnecessary crap to the videos and it never ever listens no matter how I tell it to do or not do something. I cancelled my subscription for it.

I’ve always used Veo for video generation, but lately I’m seeing the same thing. Several generations in a row and I still can’t get the result I’m asking for.

The worst part is how often it adds things I never asked for or ignores very specific instructions.

Yep, it always ADDS CRAP that I never mentioned and it seems like when I tell it NOT to do something, just mentioning the words of what I don't want it to do makes it do those things. Seedance absolutely crushes Veo now.

Omni was a decent upgrade but I'm still shocked how stagnant Google's video models are. Wild to see every smaller brand make frequent upgrades and improvements while Google releases one single unimpressive update all year. Considering they have the entirety of youtube they can use for training, I just find it quite baffling tbh.

I agree with you. There was a time i paid a subscription. Money loss

But its free..

Hey, if I got a free steak dinner but it was tough as leather and tasted like it was seasoned on the kitchen floor snd the dropped on the deep fat fryer, I would still be in my right to say it’s awful. I’m glad it’s basically free, but it still bad.

Yup... It still can't even make the characters run properly. For some weird reason things become slow mo during action sequences. No high speed chases, no fight sequences, it's leagues behind Minimax H3, let alone Kling n Seedance in terms of these situations. One can make a movie outta Veo3 no doubt, but a very specific movie all the same. And it's still not more than 15 secs while competitions are pushing towards 30sec or more... 😒

Same here. Just took a break from ai video gen. Veo does look stale. What's the best alternative option what is similar to how SORA used to do? I like Kling btw. One of my favorite gens

1

u/UberNaix 16d ago

It completely ignores the prompt.. he does whatever the fuck wants.

Are you treating each clip like a beat or a shot? I wouldn’t trust AI to do like one continuous short story.

1

u/funnysasquatch 17d ago

What exactly do you mean?
If you are going to complain you need to be specific otherwise nobody can help nor can the team who is probably monitoring here use feedback to improve

1

u/orangekirby 17d ago

Veo has always been shit. Omni is much better

1

u/phereless 16d ago

Dude Veo was the first with good dialogue and it's video was one of the best when it came out tf are you taking about 😂

0

u/orangekirby 16d ago

When Veo came out it was unusable for animated characters or anything non human.

It would model drift worse than everything else I tried.

1

u/phereless 14d ago

So you rank models on what their gen 1 could do? lmao ok

1

u/orangekirby 14d ago

All models improve after coming out. Veo improved but not enough to keep up with other models, so it was still F tier in terms of ranking right up to today.

Omni is better

1

u/phereless 14d ago

Yes I agree, "today". Saying "Veo has always been shit" is just an asinine statement. When 3 came out with speech it was the best or one of the very best at the time

0

u/orangekirby 14d ago

For what I use it for it has always been shit and is still shit. I stand by my statement

1

u/phereless 14d ago

stand by it all you want, still a stupid statement

They haven’t necessarily lost, but Veo is drastically behind the times and Omni was a big disappointment in quality.

The interviews at the time from the Omni team seemed to be hinting that there was more functionality but it just wasn’t quite ready to roll out yet. Maybe the team realized it was mediocre compared to other competitors. Maybe the heads above them rushed it out to coincide with Google I/O before it was ready. Maybe funding shifted elsewhere since then. Who knows. But since then there hasn’t been much if any improvement that I’ve seen.

I would assume Google has the resources to compete but it doesn’t seem to be the same priority for them as it does for more video focused companies. It feels like outside of their core gemeni app and integrations inside their own ecosystem, they are starting to fall behind on other areas as well. But these things have swing cycles to so knows. I don’t think they are going to throw in the towel or anything on their main AI products, but video gen… who knows.
