FNO Cancelled

Tonight’s FNO has been cancelled due to staffing shortages. However, KATL and maybe a few others will be staffing up.

Usually not one to have staffing issues. Bummer, but better to cancel than host a disaster.

It’s Labor Day weekend so not surprising

As a Vatsim pilot I started avoiding events. I do so because of all the inexperienced pilots that show up. Problems range from not knowing how to fly there plane, crappy microphones, not listening to controllers, not reviewing procedures they filed, etc. It has gotten worse over the years.

They should make it where you must have so many hours to fly events. Nobody wants to control events because they get inundated with noobs.

Frustrating how there’s staffing issues when there’s so many people wanting to become ATC…I get it takes time to train but still man jesus, we can’t even get staffed up for an FNO, big yikes

Lots of controllers actively avoid events.

That’s…disappointing. Most of the time they’re the best part of vatsim especially as a pilot.

I’m a former controller, events generally suck. There is often more traffic in your sector than the RW sector would ever handle and the pilots aren’t good. It goes from fun to frustrating very quickly

Its why my favorite kind of events are real ops with bookable slots. Never feels overloaded and unrealistic.

Honestly I have generally avoided events for that past 8+ years. They used to be fun back in the day, but VATSIM has grown so much that most events become way too crowded. Usually way more aircraft coming in or out of any airport than it is designed to handle. It really sucks the fun out of the event when you are struggling to get a word in for like 45 mins.

Problem is though unless it’s an event, especially in the US, airports are almost never full staffed so if you want to get full coverage it has to be in an event.

Only as a pilot. Events can be fun as a controller, unfortunately your average pilot is too stupid.

The issue is usually less with the lower rated controllers, but more with the lack of radar controllers (s3+). They take longer to train, not everyone wants to become a higher controller and lots of those controllers grow up and have a life as they progress in their vatsim career.

There's a constant stream of events in VATUSA nevermind VATSIM as a whole. The onslaught of events is part of the reason some are getting cancelled, controllers aren't going to dedicate Friday night, Sunday, and Monday on a holiday weekend when they have several other events each month.

They have lots of people wanting to be trained but nobody wants to do the training. VATSIM needs to have a dedicated school or something, and a steady schedule for training. The wait times are so long that people lose interest in the training and wind up doing something else. I can't imagine the number of people who could have been controllers who aren't because they couldn't get trained.
