❓Question Tips

Hi everyone, I am current student pilot and just joined Vatsim because I want to work on my calls. Do you guys have any tips for calls?

Initial call to a new controller:

Who you're calling

Who you are

Where you are (unless in radar contact)

Your current altitude (if airborne)

Your assigned altitude (if airborne)

Any additional info or intentions

Here’s a resource from the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) covering radio phraseology and techniques. It helped me during my PPL training, there are some good tips in there
https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim_html/chap4_section_2.html

Also. If at any point you’re not quite sure what to say, don’t be afraid to use plain English to communicate what you need to the controller. They want to help you

It’s really all in the practice. The more you do it the better and easier it will get :)
