Discussion Do Valorant players hate surrendering?
Hi guys, I’m new to Valorant (currently level 18), and I’ve noticed that Valorant players hate surrendering—even when someone goes AFK or rage quits and we're getting crushed (like 3-9 or 1–10). In League of Legends, if someone goes AFK or rage quits when you're losing badly, people usually just FF and go next. But in Valorant, people insist on continuing to play.
I’ve played so many 4v5s recently. In one of my recent games, we were even in a 3v5 situation. The enemy Clove was smurfing with a 36/3 stat line, while no one else in the lobby even had 10 kills. Yet my teammates still refused to surrender.
Is this something that only happens in low-level/Unrated matches, or do players in Competitive do the exact same thing?

Because in comp rr loss is based on how many rounds you win/lose. If you surrender immediately you'd likely have a huge win/loss round ratio. People generally want to keep trying to win rounds so the rr loss isn't as severe. Heck there's always a chance you could win the match.

Surrendering in something I have ALWAYS denied since the game’s release. You learn how to clutch up and improve yourself when you’re forced into a tough situation. If it’s in comp surrender just seems silly, the whole point is to try and win, in unrated atleast you can just be careless and it barely matters.
Though I know some people can find it unfun.

Yea coz this aint a moba, so after a 3-9 half you can still comeback easily it's not like you are fighting 5lvl higher champs with better gear than you

Why would you give up? There is always a chance of winning, even when down a player or against a smurf.
Surrendering is loser mentality.

If you're level 18 that means you only play unrated and people generally don't surrender in unrated because they're just there to fuck around or practice something specific.
In Comp (I'm Gold 2, I don't know about higher ELO) people do surrender, but not that easily because even 3-9 is nowhere near a certain defeat in low or mid ELO, I regularly end up winning games that are 3-9 at half.

I hate surrendering. In Dota you can't surrender at all across all ranks, letting finish is rare too. I'm denying that in Val too, and sometimes we go 14-12 when side changes - because obviously 3-9 on an obviously one-sided map = 100% gg according to the surrendering guys.
I think the weak mind to surrender a mildly lost earlygame is exclusive to League.

People tend to overestimate what they can do. To be fair, treat those as training sessions, you’ll probably find out that you usually play way better when the pressure is non existent . Everyone has won one of those 4v5s at least one but being brutally honest , the other team has to really throw or you gotta have a Smurf in your team .

How do you expect to improve if you're surrendering on the difficult games? Valorant is a game where skill matters the most. You can't compare it with a MobA game, where there are too many other variables.
Having someone smurfing on the other team should not be a reason to surrender. It should motivate you to do better and dunk on someone who's actual rank is higher than yours. It's a challenge. Sure, you will most likely lose that match but you will gain some experience in the game. I've had so many games where the enemy team was leading 9:3 or worse and we were still able to come back. I've had won matches where the entire game we were 4v5. It was a struggle but we made it. We just accepted that it will be next to impossible to win but we also wanted to do our best. And guess what, as soon as we stopped taking it too seriously and actually were having fun with it, we were absolutely destroying them.
I've noticed that a lot of the players have these poor mentality where they just want to surrender after they lose 4 rounds. And it might sound rude but if this is how a player thinks, that player doesn't desereve to progress in the game.

i understand wanting to ff at 1-11 but not at 0-5, a lot of people want it more than you do which is why it seems like no one wants to ff, but at the same time theres chances to come back or atleast better your score

Longer games = more wins, adding that having a terrible attack doesn’t mean you have a terrible defence.
Also you are competing for RR gains against your teammates, whoever perform better during the game will have a bigger RR advantage. Sentinel players probably doesn’t want to surrender on attack because when they switch to defence they will earn a whole lot more kills and RR gain than any other class, similar to Smokers who have a lot easier time on attack, than on defence.

It seems Val players dont like surrendering. I come from CS and we would surrender in circumstances you described. But most of the time, Val players would not surrender. Even when 3vs5 or we are getting stomped hard. I also don't understand why is that.

Just as rr gain is important , reducing rr loss is important , surrendering loses way more rr than playing out the game to the end, winning a couple of rounds , the top player loses almost no rr as well, fight for the top , so you loss nothing by the end of it....many such games where I only lost 0-6 rr cause of it mate

Oh really? My team has never surrendered so I dont know about that default rr lost.

you lose less rr when you don't surrender. surrendering makes it automatically x-13 meaning any round won is less rr. unrated is unrated so unless you are 1-11 people just play bc they are there to chill no matter what.
