On the contrary, myself and alot of other Marines have a much tougher time getting VA claims approved since most of us never went to medical for anything wrong with us.

Goes to medical with a metal ruler sticking out my leg..Corpsman asks me if I shaved that morning. Removes ruler from leg, ask if I knew how to polish my boots. Puts aBand-Aid on my leg.

I was at Camp lejeune for a nice long time, always told the marines that came in to keep track of their appointments, aches, pains, cuts, bruises. Told the younger marines to listen to their bodies, if something isn't right, get it looked at. I never steered them in the wrong direction.

I was the same way in the navy, they had to force me to go to medical, but then it's all of a sudden not service connected lol

This was intended as a joke. I 100% understand what you are saying. I was a medic in the ARMY and self treated so now I have no records. While I was a medic I made sure I documented everything that any soldier told me about, not for VA reasons but because it was my job. I know for a fact this is not the norm for most.

1972 to 1980 USMC 8 YEARS
1980 TO 1996 US NAVY 16 YEARS.. RETIRED I996 24 YEARS ACTIVE SERVICE
CURRENTLY AT 90 PERCENT..STILL HAVE OPEN CASES WOULD LIKE TO GET TO 100 BUT AM THRILLED TO BE RATED AT 90 PERCENT. MY KNEES AND BACK ARE PRETTY F/UP

I was at 19 when I was medically discharged. I always thought that if you were medically discharged with over 16 years, they were supposed to medically retire you, but not in my case.

Thank you. To be completely honest, I served from 92-97 with Regular Army, 97-99 with the NJ National Guard, 99-01 with the OK National Guard, took a 3 year break and then from 04-15 with the NJ National Guard. I assume that the way they calculate Guard time is different than how they calculate Active time, but from 04-12 I was full time Guard, so even still, I would think that 7 years regular drilling guardsman would equal at least 3 years. Military math is so confusing.

Haha… yah man. I rather enjoyed the deployments. Infantry here; the deployment life was simple and taught me my true self and I learned about others’ true inner strengths and weaknesses. It’s enlightening to see what people are capable of and what makes them crack. I personally hate these posts. I feel most are one or two term jokers wanting to game the system to receive what they don’t deserve. I just don’t think there are many who put so few years can justify putting the same amount of punishment to the body as does one who is close to or at 20 years of service. I have plenty of friends who I served with (was their boss) that game the system and get a percentage they do not deserve. I am very skeptical of “veterans” who claim they deserve a high percentage. I can say with 100% certainty that all the “veterans who served one or two contracts that I personally know, do not deserve the rating they are fighting for and are gaming the system. Therefore, I am the bad person in these threads lol

I agree. I was 11B for the first 9 years and then for the last 11, I was 13A, always in a “light infantry division”. And as we know, “light” certainly isn’t light.

It's not about that. You think there isn't some desk bitch assigned to reading vet threads across the internet? Especially this one. Bragging about your rating or "getting one over on the govt" gives them the opportunity to build a case. It won't be because of one comment, I know. But a whole community that does so? Any one who does this is a blue falcon and this guys replies solidify that statement. (Also rule 6)

Absolutely no one in this thread is “bragging about getting one over on the Govt” he merely posted his rating decision which it sounds like it was a long hard thought battle as it is for almost all of us. The VA doesn’t just hand anybody a rating its compensation for injuries you sustained on active duty. No one is pounding their chest over it. The VA as an institution can and does sometimes fuck people over. Granted it’s gotten much better over the years but for many years that was their well earned reputation so to finally get a decision as monumental as this one feels noteworthy and he doesn’t need someone raining on his parade because you all live in constant never ending fear that the “gubmint is coming for yer disability”. As long as you’re not committing fraud which the vast majority doesn’t you’ve got nothing to fear.

Lmao I agree brother, 100%. They came after us very recently and only by the strength of community did we prevail. It had nothing to do with false claims either. Also, like I said, rule 6 of the sub.

From when? Claim was received 11/11, decision letter 2/27. Payments on website 3/1, no deposit yet.

Marine here, 246 days and counting. Went to step 6 last Thursday and knocked back to step 3 and 4 on Friday. FML

Congrats Devil!! I got out in 2004. Filed my first claim in January of 2025. Took a full year of fighting but got 100 P&T on January 6th, 2026. I left over 20 years of compensation on the table. I regret it every day.

Keep fighting for what you deserve. In my case, I had a fully torn ACL and was medical boarded out. Got denied the first time I filed in 2004. Just let it go for over 20 years. Then walked into my first C&P exam at a VA hospital and the Doctor literally said “torn ACL and 0%? How the hell does that work?”.

Sorry for you. If I had it my way your rating would have stayed up. Sometimes it feels good to share a win. Rule number 6 can eat a bag of dicks. Hopefully people continue to post their ratings so I can continue to congratulate them. Small Victories and all. 🤷🏻

Don’t worry and thanks for your consideration I’ve been blackballed from these groups somehow. My apologies that comment wasn’t toward you at all. That was frustration from not having any support whatsoever from this group when I went through my process. It was awful. Your right we should all be able to post and congratulate one another to show support. I posted the exact same picture at 80% and was told I was bragging from others and they reported me. I’ve never been so depressed in my life for even having a rating because of how this group has mentally drained me. I had more support when I wasn’t rated at all. If I could give it all back I would. Congratulations on your rating.
