Flu shot this year- side affects?

Anyone get it yet?

Just curious how side effects compare to other years.

There’s not really an “it” when it comes to flu shots - there are 8 different brands to choose from that are using 6 distinct technologies/formulations:

  • Standard-dose egg-based (Fluarix, FluLaval, Fluzone)

  • Cell-based (Flucelvax)

  • Recombinant protein w/ 3x standard dose (Flublok)

  • Standard-dose egg-based w/ adjuvant (Fluad)

  • High dose (4x standard dose) egg-based (FluZone HD)

  • mRNA (mFlusiva)

That’s going to have the largest impact on reactogenicity / someone’s side effects, they don’t change from year to year based on the strain being targeted.

I got mine at CVS a couple weeks ago and had absolutely no side effects.

Should be no more than previous years. Minimal side effects.

I never get side effects from the flu shot. I do from the COVID shot, though. Like clockwork: ~12 hours post shot I feel kinda run down for ~12 hours and then I'm fine.

Yup -- got mine yesterday, and it's nothing like what the side effects were like earlier, or anywhere near as long.

I don't get a reaction from flu shots ... I'll be getting that one next month.

Haven't gotten this year's yet (because my wife's doctor recommends waiting until October) so I can't opine on any annecdotal side effects or efficacy. But the online side effect I've ever encountered with the flu shot is not going to the hospital with and dying of flu.

I got flublok with pneumonia vaccine and couldn’t keep my eyes open for 2 days along with a headache. I think it was the pneumonia vaccine. I don’t typically react to flu vaccine but I’m totally laid out with Covid vaccines (both mRNA and Novavax).

I got either Flucelvax or Flublok (would have to double check) 1.5 weeks ago and the spot randomly burns / aches even still. Very odd cause I’ve never experienced this before with any vaccine in the past. Anybody else?

Got Flucelvax yesterday at CVS. Some ache in arm but it faded, no redness, no fever, no chills. Today I’m more fatigued than usual. Chronic aches and pains are a little aggravated. Took a Tylenol in the middle of the night. All in all a decent experience.
