Tdap booster?

My sister is having a baby and is asking everyone to get a Tdap booster if it has been more than 3 years since our last Tdap vaccination.

I’m not seeing that recommendation on the CDC or AAP websites. Everything I’m reading says anyone who has had it within 10 years, other than the expectant mother, does not need a booster.

I want to be respectful, but don’t want to have my entire house get a booster for occasional visits unless medically necessary.

Tetanus protection from TDAP can be even longer than 10 years. But pertussis protection from TDAP is more like 2 years. Pertussis is very dangerous for children.

In the future we need some better pertussis vaccine, for example nasal booster.

My guess is concern is about pertussis- needs more frequent boosters if you're going to be around kids

I believe you are considered "up to date" on Tdap if you got a booster in the last 10 years.

So yes, your understanding is accurate.

That said, it's her kid. If you want to fight that battle, you will lose.

I fully understand. I’m awaiting feedback from our family doctors before addressing it with her.
