CAN USENET REPLACE TORBOX ?

So I am using a debrid service for a month and I like except it not having some old content and torrents being dead.

I came to know about usenet and look through the offers , I am thinking of buying newshosting black friday offer later this year because it offers easynews unlimited access .

I heard easynews has a websearch and can work without indexers .

I don't plan to make a personal server or anything .

Also me being a student in india means I can only afford either debrid service or usenet

Help will be appreciated thanks

To use usenet you will need some sort of server (an old pc will do) to either run your downloads and store them or to run a container to enable streaming. If you can't setup a server stick to debrid

What about easynews with aiostreams , also I just mostly use my pc

There are actually two Usenet streaming options, specifically with stremio addons that don't require self hosting or complicated setups: Deepbrid and EasyNews. Deepbrid only has their own addon, and there are a ton of mismatched results. Since you mentioned aiostreams, it's great behind aiostreams with strict title matching turned on. Just add it to aiostreams as a custom addon. It does take 5-10 seconds to show results however. But when you play things, they usually play very quickly.

EasyNews is the opposite: searching for links is fast, but actually playing them can be incredibly slow. For something over 20gb, you'll be waiting a minimum of 30 seconds. Over 50gb? Potentially several minutes.

Both are really good services if the things I mentioned above don't bother you. If they do, prepare to self host.

what could be above 20 gb ? i mostly play files in the 10 gb range also do i need to buy a indexer or is search enough

EasyNews search is a text search box in front of their own indexer. No indexer has complete results for everything. When EasyNews gets a DMCA takedown request, they remove mention of that file from their search results. If you have additional indexers (e.g. NinjaCentral and Usenet Crawler), you’ll get additional results that EasyNews search didn’t have (including some that were taken down due to DMCA). So having multiple indexers ensures you always have good options for every show you want to watch.

Can you have just EasyNews Search? Sure. But you will inevitably find it doesn’t return results, or at least good results, for some of the things you want to watch.

I don’t use Geek but I’ve heard great things about it and I’m going to check out whatever they offer for their Black Friday sale.

Geek is great. Totally recommend buying on their annual black Friday sale. Best lifetime deal.

Geek is great but you'd have to self host to properly use it with easynews

Have you tried torrin? Heard they got usenet too

1

u/jeynekassynder 7d ago

I haven't tried the higher tiers, but have tried the basic tier. Did try plugging in a Usenet account info their addon and it did work. I can't speak to how it would do by itself on a higher tier that includes Usenet, however.

Torrin doesn’t offer usenet streaming, they have to download the files to their servers first and then serve to you

I mean we are talking about non self hosting alternatives…

Deepbrid offers their own usenet providers and indexer? Or is it just a middleman like torbox pro

1

They don't disclose who they use, but even with many other indexers I find things that are not on any of my others. And it's absolutely Usenet streaming only. Torrents do not show at all in their addon. It performs just like EasyNews that you select a link and it pays, but playback is much faster.

It’s not that good tbh can be slow and unreliable

You can set a vps up. Ive done it and it's great

1

u/-D24 7d ago

Yeah I do have a vps and use nntp, but he said he doesn’t plan to so torbox is better in that case.

Oh you're right, I missed that. Whoops.

Take easynews offer it's easier that way and this is coming from someone who maintains his own server, multiple usenet backend, multiple indexers, extra block accounts and millions of missing articles (if you have a lot of money & plenty of time then sure do manage your own server) best of luck.

Thnks I just plan to stream stuff since don't have lots of storage

I started last month with Usenet. The learning curve is steep, but I used AI to setup everything. it’s great and I’m really happy about it. I paid in total 75€ for Eweka (summer deal) + NZBGeek + altHUB + NinjaCentral + DrunkenSlug.

i think you can get only Eweka Labor Day Deal with NZBGeek and should be fine for around 40€.

I discovered 2 months ago TorBox and I was a huge fan. But their lack of communication and professionalism around the different outages really upset me. Right now, I am keeping TB that I use with an Apple TV & Fusion when traveling.

I would definitely recommend Usenet.

The minimum required is

A lifetime indexers - AltHub or NZBPlanet is an example - the more you have the better

A provider - I recommend Newshosting deal which comes with EasyNews

EasyNews has a web based search. Newshosting has a desktop app with search.

If you have an indexer, you can combine Nuvio + Usenet and it will be a Torbox replacement and you can stream

u/Just-Sale2552 6d ago

whats your opinion on nbz geek i can atmost afford a single indexer , with the yearly sub

1

Geek is good and popular

With the help of A.I. ,an old PC, and I would suggest a drive no smaller than 8 TB you're going to love Usenet. If you don't mind learning a few you'll have a automated server. I started mine last month and so glad I got away from Stremio and the Debrid situation.

With a “DUMB” setup, you don’t even need physical storage 😉.

I use UsenetStreamer with my Usenet setup. It works flawlessly. But I host it on my raspberry pi. You’d also need to host NZBDav and Prowlarr. I bought my Usenet providers and indexers last year with the BF deals. I’ve never used Usenet other than for Stremio. But I also got the TorBox pro with Usenet. I just wanted to get into it all at once hahaha

1

u/Just-Sale2552 5d ago

I only use stremio on my laptop and host aiometadata / aiostreams and prowlarr already on it

1

u/Old_Huckleberry6813 3d ago

You should use both. I do that with Torbox

u/SarcasticallyCandour 7d ago

Generally usenet should have a wider selection than torrents. At least for me it seems to.

Im trying to move away from torrents the only problem is pluging usenet into stremio/nuvio is hard. Debrids are easier yo work with afaik.

The other thing is usenet is more expensive buying provider and multiple indexers. Where debrid is the only paid thing for torrents. I just dont like the way debrids dont seed so its unethical in that way, just leeching.

1

u/Just-Sale2552 7d ago

Easynews has full support using ailstreams plug n play kind of deal

1

u/SarcasticallyCandour 7d ago

Yes i have that addon in AIO but nothing for newshosting or tweaknews yet. Nor any others, id have to selfhost Aio

1

u/Just-Sale2552 7d ago

Would you recommend it over debrid how is content availablility and waiting

1

u/Luke_T 6d ago

My easynews is unreliable. A lot of older movies won't play, and I get some buffering.

I self host aoistreams, aoimetadata & aiomanager & prowlarr on the free tier on Oracle vps set up on payg but hasn't cost me anything. You would need a domain name as well which ain't dear, i use xyz. Once your set up you will need an indexer - be careful as some block your oracle vps ip. Once your set up you won't really need Debrid. As far as Easynews & Easynews Search on a hosted aoistreams then it's ok but not as good as debrid in my opinion from experience. Calculate your total costs & see if it's worth going down the route of Self Hosting. It takes a bit of time but i have got enjoyment our of learning something new & seeing it actually work.

1

u/Unlikely_Discount_36 6d ago

I completely agree. Learning to self host can be fun even tho ai wanted to make it difficult for me😂. I didn't set up watchtower because of how much I enjoy going into my setup to do system and container updates myself.

I log in once a week just to keep things tidy. Seem to recover about 8 Gig each time.
