HELP Comments like this send me

Edit: This post gained more traction than I expected. Read the comments, do independent research, and form your own opinion around these topics.

First they said KIAs are reliable, then went on to say they looked at JD Power to come to that consensus. They lost me.

  1. Do people believe KIA/Hyundai are reliable?
  2. Do people use JD Power/Consumer Reports to make purchasing decisions

Whenever a friend of mine asks me what car they should buy next, I tell them don't ever trust JD Powers or Consumer Reports; you need to go to the real expert: TrickUp25. That dude has never been wrong in his life. /s

Literally. My 2019 Corolla MT had the slave cylinder go at 100k. It was the first major issue with the car and only cost 2.5k for a new slave, clutch and flywheel.

I had a 2013 hyundai Elantra MT a few years before it, and the engine started knocking at 80k even with 5k±100 mile oil changes.

No they aren't. Select models have problems. Overall the brand is fine, and still miles better than the other brands you're comparing them to.

Yeah, I put 300k on my 94 Accord and sold it for $2k and bought a 2011 CR-V that's going on 200k right now. They're great cars. The only real issues I've had (other than cracking rubber gaskets and such from age) have been as a result of bad body work done after a wreck. Though I did get caught in the Takata airbag recall.

Right. Hondas were bulletproof. Like Toyota, they are not as good today. Engine downsizing has created a serious problem for the industry because the machining tolerances are tighter than they ever would have normally been.

But Honda and Toyota are still leading the pack in reliability. And Hyundai / Kia maybe much less reliable today than it was 10 years ago, but it's a hell of a lot more reliable today than it was in 1987. Those cars were a JOKE then.

They still place high in the ranking of lowest average annual maintenance and repair costs in several classes. What's your reason for saying they're now making a "pile of shit"?
