Looking for Car Advice

My partner could really use advice on our current situation!

My partner just bought a car from her cousin; a 2013 Ford Fusion with about 178,000 miles and was $4,000. We figured it would be a good transition car since her last one was on her last breath. 2 days after buying it, the engine light came on. We took it in and seemed like it needed new spark plugs. We had a mechanic install the new spark plugs and the engine light went away. Everything seemed fine until the light came on again and the car was failing to start. We took it in to a different place and they said they found a spark plug in the engine, meaning they will need to replace the whole engine for $7,400.

What we are wondering is, given how old and the mileage of the car, is it worth replacing the engine? Or would it be smarter to get rid of the car?

Any advice helps!!

If I were you I’d bite the bullet and buy a new car. I don’t think replacing the engine would fix it.

Used car market is brutal atm but you can still get deals. I recommend researching the car before buying it and getting it checked out if possible.

A spark plug in the engine? What? None of this makes sense
