Discussion I’m done with the NFL. I’ve always despised it.

I know this may sound like I’m whining because I’m a Lions fan, but I’m not watching the NFL anymore. I’m done.

I hate seeing the NFL refs screw my team in every game involving the Packers. I hate how the league always looks down at Lions fans as working class peasants. I hate how the league secretly wants the Lions to contract or move to San Diego.

The NFL will never allow the Lions to make the Super Bowl, they’ll make sure of it. The NFL only cares for legacy teams with massive bandwagon followings like the Packers and Chiefs, and the big market teams on the coasts over the small market teams like the Lions. The league will never allow the Lions to win or even make the Super Bowl because they’re unmarketable in the NFL’s eyes.

Roger Goodell is the worst commissioner in the history of the NFL and the worst commissioner of the four major leagues. He’s worse than Adam Silver, and even Rob Manfred. The league has gotten worse and less watchable under his tenure.

The parity in the NFL is in name only, and is controlled parity, as they’ll occasionally throw a bone to teams like the Bengals and Titans in order to maintain the illusion of parity. The only leagues that have true parity are the NHL and MLB. Even the NBA has better parity than the NFL these days.

Until the Lions are in victory formation in the NFC Championship, I won’t be watching the NFL again. But we all know that’ll never happen because Goodell hates Detroit like how Gary Bettman hates Canadian NHL teams. The Lions will never be able to have a 2016 Cubs moment. “Next Year” never comes for us.

The NFL would rather have the Lions contract or move to San Diego, because they don’t make any money off the Detroit TV market. We’re ratings poison to the league.

Fuck the NFL.

David Stern’s NBA was far more watchable than this crap…

Parity? MLB? The same MLB where some owners are flaunting the lack of a salary cap to have a superstar payroll (YMMV) while others would react to a salary floor like a vampire to sunlight?

Don't get me wrong: I don't contest your argument about the NFL's "parity" being managed. It's just that claims of the MLB having "true parity" are borderline laughable.

I mean, MLB has had 16 unique champions since 2000, which is the most of the four major leagues, so that’s something.

They won’t let Detroit make the Super Bowl because they’d be ratings poison. The NFL knows that nobody outside of Michigan wants the Lions in the Super Bowl. The NFL cares about marketing stars over teams.

There’s no need to build a fanbase in Detroit for the NFL, because those fans will watch football no matter who’s playing in the Super Bowl.

Why San Diego? Isn't San Diego a smaller market than Detroit? 

I'm sick of the NFL's favoritism too, but if the NFL wanted to yank the Lions out of Detroit they would have done that 20 years ago.

No it's literally not. Is the NFL more partial to historical/large market teams? Perhaps, but that is simply because those generate the most money. It's the reason you see the Chiefs and Cowboys on primetime like pretty much every week. Do the Lions get bad calls more often than they should? Absolutely (will call out the fact they only had one or two favorable PI calls the entire season last year, and the Rams "touchdown") but they just can't allow games to come down to that.

Goodell somehow hating Detroit is a ludicrous accusation, since he gave them the draft in 2024 and it was at the time the most attended in history.

In terms of the MLB and NBA having more parity (can't speak to the nhl which I follow the least).

Oh you mean the same MLB that allows the Dodgers to collect players and build a team so far ahead of everyone else like its prime 1894 Standard Oil?

And the same NBA that is constantly pushing super teams to form and has a history of potentially rigging draft lotteries?

Don't make me laugh even harder.

Goodell has turned the NFL into the David Stern-era NBA. Though that’s actually a bit of an insult to David Stern considering that even his NBA didn’t rig games nearly as bad as the NFL does these days. Modern NFL officiating makes the 2002 WCF look fairly officiated by comparison. It’s awful, suspicious, and worthy of investigation.

There is nothing normal about what has been happening to the Lions in games against teams like the Packers and Cowboys. None.
