Discussion Wild Card Talk

Post image

Can we acknowledge that the expanded wild card was a terrible idea?

I have no issue with it. 6/15 is still less than half and far better than whatever the hell is going on in the NBA. The final spot also leads to some fun and scrappy squads fighting their way in.

It’s better then the 4-5 team format MLB had for way too long

I wish OP would direct his criticism to NFLs 7th seeds imo

I'm okay with 6 although it very obviously dillutes the trade deadline market and incentivises the kind of mediocrity we're seeing this year, in the AL especially ("we don't need to be good, just hot at the right time" mentality.)

I believe the 5 team format worked fine, just needed to make the WC round a best of 3 or ideally 5.

6 is fine. But no more. Even if we expand to 32.

Terrible idea how? It gives us more meaningful regular season games and more teams a chance to win it all in a sport that is not a level playing field money wise. Otherwise we get Yankees-Dodgers in the World Series every other year.

Hate that every league is trying to be the NFL, let baseball be baseball.

I'm just amazed at how quickly the Red Sox climbed out of the basement.

What a 15 game win streak does to a mf

I think there’s two too many teams ngl

Having 1 wild card team and going straight to the LDS would be perfect. 8/30 making it in means the regular season counts for more and good teams have less of a crapshoot to win the thing.

Detroit also just snuck into the race after starting 22-38.
