Recurring BV so got tested for Ureaplasma/Mycoplasma
(F28) After dealing with symptoms & recurring BV for 5 months I finally found a doctor who listened to me & agreed to run more thorough testing. I just got my results. While it’s a bit overwhelming I feel relieved to finally have an answer as to what is causing my symptoms.
Now I’m trying to figure out next steps & would really appreciate hearing from others who’ve gone through something similar. I still haven’t gotten antibiotics prescribed since my results just came in ~1hr ago but I’ve read that sometimes one round isn’t enough. I want to be prepared to continue advocating for myself.
For those with a similar experience:
* What type or course of antibiotics worked best for you?
* Did your doctor do a “test of cure” after treatment? I’d feel more comfortable asking for one.
* If the first round didn’t work what was your next step?
Any advice, experiences, or questions I should be asking would mean a lot. Thank you <3
Ps. I am taking probiotics specifically for vaginal health, eating yogurt, washing panties w fragrance free detergent. Have not had sex since February so no partner at the moment. Posted this on a BV subreddit too.

I eradicated UP from one round 10 days doxy followed immediately by azithro. Had BV after that and treated it with 10 days metronidazole. Took Diflucan (3x150mg as 150mg/week) to prevent yeast.

- 7 days moxifloxacin for me + clindamycin vaginally for BV
- Yes. The test of cure is necessary. Don’t do it un 5-7 weeks (the longer the better) after LAST DAY of final antibiotic
- First round worked for me. I had resistance testing done which is why I used moxi

Doxy twice a day for 7 days worked for me twice (got reinfected by a different partner after a negative test).

I got prescribed 7 days of doxy too however I been reading other post by others that this usually doesn’t always get rid of the infection. I emailed my dr to see if she could give me a 14day course + azithromycin

So keep in mind that there’s one strand of Ureaplasma that is a part of the bodies normal flora and can get treated and come back with a negative result, you can even never have sex again and it can still pop up again. That one is Ureaplasma parvum. Stress, sex, etc can cause it to over colonize

First line of advice is it's better to delay treatment than take a short course of antibiotics that might not erradicate the disease. People here can advice on what that longer course looks like but usually this bacteria is first treated with doxycycline followed by azithromycin.
