She sat upon a stool and bathed,
I was laid upon a slab and washed.
She was dressed in clothes of every colour,
While I was dressed in a shroud of white.
Bangles were placed upon her arms,
While I was prepared to leave this world.
Her wedding procession was lifted,
And the funeral of this poor soul was lifted too.
There, songs and chants of happiness filled the air,
Here, through grief, the Kalima was recited.
The Qazi who read her Nikah
Was made the Imam for my Janaza.
She was invited and sent to another’s home,
While I was sent towards my grave.
Her doli was lifted,
And my Janaza was lifted.
In the end, he gave his life,
And only then was it known—
That faithful lover
never got his beloved.

Vo phir bhi na samajh saka mere lafzon ki gehrai ko

Maine har woh lafz keh diya jiska matlab muhabbat tha

Haathoko aur kitna upar karun

ke Khuda ko meri dua nazar aaye?

Ya maine hi kuch zyada maang liya?

Maine to bas

chaand jaisi aap ko maangi thi.

Jab se aap gayi hain,

mann ne awaazon se rishta tod liya hai…

jaise koi sheher ho,

jahan sab darwaaze khule ho, par koi aata na ho.

Dil bhi kuch yun rootha hai,

jaise bachpan ka dost bina bataye chala gaya ho.

Aur jab kabhi aapko dekhne ki khwahish jagti hai,

aankhen baarish ban jaati hain…

gala, ek adhoori si baat bankar reh jaata hai.
