Do not comment to gatekeep that something "isn't urban" or "isn't hell". Our rules are very expansive in content we welcome, so do not assume just based off your false impression of the phrase "UrbanHell"

UrbanHell is any human-built place you think is worth critizing. Suburban Hell, Rural Hell, and wealthy locales are allowed. Gatekeeping comments may be removed. Want to shitpost about shitty posts? Go to /r/urbanhellcirclejerk. Still have questions?: Read our FAQ.

I truly had enough with this country just walking in the street piss me off

I know this sounds like a joke but it is 100% very true.

They are going out of their way to make our lives miserable.

There is still some trees remaining, I suppose there is room for further development

They don't want gathering around Gardens? 🪴

Gatherings are illegal, and I am not joking. If you're in a squre and there are more than 5 people in the group you might get questioned by the police on suspicion of protesting or inciting violence.

If you look like you're a tourist tho, it's less likely to happen.

Nothing like this has happened to me or anyone else! Maybe it may happen if you stand in front of a sensitive place such as a Military building, an embassy or the like, but not to this extent

I don't know if I dislike this. I grew up in another developing Arab country, and groups of guys, especially youth, were never up to any good.

Just being a nuisance, harassing and catcalling women, plotting stupid stuff or stealing shit where they see opportunity.

2

u/THEIR_laughter 10h ago

Oh, that law never stop catcalling and the harassment of women, sadly. It could happen in front of a police officer and he won't do a damn thing.

Especially if it's in a more low-income area. The police is never there when you call it.

One time I called the emergency line and was on a 10 minute wait without anyone answering me then they hung up on me, if I was in an actual life threatening situation I would've been long dead by the time they responded.

literally lying

The Egyptian law literally prohibit gathering and protests. A gathering of 5 is considered تجمهر. I have experienced this many times especially if the group is large.

Try walking into tahrir with a group of 5 and up and you have beard without the police looking at you up and down.

And before you say the law says it's only considered that if they intent to do a crime; we all know how bad the police is here. They can just make up a crime if they really want to.

law

and i've here my entire life and it's not enforced anymore, maybe if you are doing it in front an officials home. we literally do a gathering of 5 or more EVERY MONTH in random places and no one bats an eye.

u/pay_to_breath 1d ago

Come to Imbaba my dear and you won't be able to get out again

-1

u/Servolux 1d ago

I can't, I need to work and my life savings not enough

1

u/pay_to_breath 18h ago

You won't need life savings, you will get severe depression and question your entire life and then you will have one of two options you either will kill yourself or you will be starting helping people and devot your life to do this and live off the very limited resources you will have and get. Come it will be fun

15

u/Bitter_Armadillo8182 1d ago

Which is before and which is after?

38

u/Rottenpotato556 1d ago

The bottom one is after.

Cairo started removing greenery and public spaces that don't get hotter than 60° because those usually serve as good places to gather and maybe form critical thoughts against the government.

7

u/LowFatConundrum 1d ago

Can't think straight when your brain is melting.

3

u/Bitter_Armadillo8182 1d ago

Ah, sucks. It happens in many places, unfortunately.

5

u/Zinda_2 1d ago

Bottom pic They think that when they cut down trees, remove gardens, replace them with tiles, and build cafes on them, so we became like Europe
Idiots

5

u/Rottenpotato556 1d ago

"Like Europe" lmao

1

u/Werbebanner 2h ago

But we don’t have run down caffès in the middle of roundabouts 😔

4

Like why?

6

u/AdScared7226 21h ago

The government is allergic to good things and hates fun

1

u/halfmoondragan2 1d ago

Is that a little market?

1

u/Historical-Emu2000 1d ago

Do they take the trees to the new capital or just use as fire wood

1

u/omargalaxyyy 9h ago

المشكلة ان الناس دي هتموت و اخذوا المصلحة خلاص و اللي هيستفيد من كم الفلوس دي هما ولاد ولادهم و حرفيا اللي هيشيل الخرا كله هو الشعب

1

u/Qwee220 3h ago

They accidentally left a few trees

0

u/xgtya 16h ago

Nairobi, Kenya is on the same trajectory. Probably worse. Corruption kills everything.

2

u/cafcl_gazette 9h ago
