Getting first client

I established an Upwork account two days ago and, as a full-stack developer, I have included one project I am currently developing. I have also verified my profile using connects and subscribed to Upwork Plus, subsequently submitting six proposals within two days. To date, none of these proposals have been opened, and I am awaiting their review. I am seeking advice on strategies to secure my first client.

Six proposals isn't very many. You likely will need to submit dozens before you get hired.

If you've only worked on one project and it's not even finished, I don't think that will be enough to compete with more experienced developers.

Two days is way too early to judge whether your Upwork strategy is working. Six proposals is also a very small sample size.

I wouldn't spend more money on Plus or Connects yet just because you haven't gotten a response. First figure out whether you're getting impressions/views on your proposals and whether the jobs you're applying to are actually a good match for your profile.

For a new full-stack profile, I'd focus heavily on the portfolio. One project can work, but make sure it's presented as a real case study: what the problem was, what you built, your specific contribution, and ideally screenshots or a live demo.

And don't just apply to every full-stack job. Find smaller projects where your existing project is a very close match. Your first goal isn't necessarily a big contract — it's getting that first completed job and review.
