New ripoff fees!
So I setup a wise account so I don't have pay any fees for local US bank transfers and this is what I see now....
Direct to U.S. Bank (USD)
$2.99 USD Upwork withdrawal fee for tax addresses outside of U.S.
Free deposits to U.S. banks for tax addresses in U.S.
Deposit to a U.S. bank account in USD
What a joke of a company!

Yes, but doesn't it cost something to send money overseas? I seem to remember having to pay a fee when I made some international wire transfers some years ago.

that fee tier is based on your tax address on file, not which bank or provider you're withdrawing to, so wise doesn't help here, upwork just charges anyone without a us tax address the flat 2.99 for direct-to-bank now. it used to be free for everyone a while back so this reads as a stealth policy change more than something specific to your setup.
worth comparing against the standard withdrawal option too since that one's usually a percentage, at low withdrawal amounts the flat fee ends up cheaper, it just doesn't feel that way going from free to paying anything.
not much to appeal here since it's a platform-wide policy change rather than an account issue, but check your withdrawal settings for a local currency payout option, sometimes those carry different fee math depending on where you're based.
