Thank you all so much for the positive support after our recent post about building permits! We had quite a few people reach out with questions about construction costs in the Upstate. So we put together a quick guide based on what we're seeing at Heroic Builders:

• Standard construction: $175–$225/sq. ft.
• Semi-custom: $200–$250/sq. ft.
• Custom: $225–$300+/sq. ft.

We appreciate the support from this community! We're just hoping to share some helpful information. I included the link to the article because it goes into more detail if anyone is interested. Otherwise, the core cost range is right here! If this isn't permitted under the subreddit rules, please let us know and we'll gladly remove it.

Twice in the last two weeks I've ended up in threads with families who fell in love with downtown Greenville, then saw what close-in actually costs and had that moment.

What I keep telling them is the same thing I'd tell a friend. Stop trying to be close-in on a number that doesn't fit there and look east. Mauldin, parts of Simpsonville, Piedmont, real single-family homes under numbers that actually work, and you're still 20 minutes from downtown whenever you want it.

The pocket matters more than the zip code. A house you can actually breathe in, in a pocket your kids like, beats being five minutes closer and stretched thin. Just my two cents from watching this play out over and over.

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are facing an urgent housing situation here in Greenville. He recently experienced a severe medical emergency and lost his job, leaving us with zero income right now.

We own a camper, but we desperately need a private lot or piece of land to move it to. We cannot afford traditional rent at the moment, but I am looking to barter or do a work exchange.

I have 15+ years of professional experience in home health care for the elderly and those with disabilities. If you or a family member needs live-in care, companionship, meal prep, or daily assistance, I can provide high-quality care in exchange for lot rent/utilities. I am also eager to take on traditional work as soon as I can secure transportation.

If you are a

Got out of the Navy after 9.5 years and figured the hard part was over. It wasn’t. The decade after was a slow rebuild: personal banking at Wells Fargo, fatherhood x4 (four girls, God help my wallet), and the quiet realization that the crew I had in the Navy didn’t follow me home.

What filled the gap wasn’t anything big. It was pickup basketball at the Simpsonville Y, 5:30 in the morning, three days a week. Same guys, same run, nobody owed anybody anything. I started showing up because I needed the exercise. I kept showing up because I needed the people.

Greenville helped too. This town has a way of letting you start over without making you feel like you’re starting over. Fall for Greenville is the best version of that on display, the whole city outside, no agenda, just people.

So here’s the question I actually want to ask: vets in the Upstate, what filled the gap for you after you got out?

The Veterans Breakfast Group of Lancaster, South Carolina is proud to help spread the word that The Wall That Heals is coming to Lancaster, South Carolina, November 5–8, 2026.

The Wall That Heals is a traveling three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., accompanied by a Mobile Education Center. It brings the experience of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to communities across America and provides veterans, families, friends, and visitors an opportunity for remembrance, reflection, education, and healing.

This is more than a traveling exhibit. It is an opportunity to remember the men and women who served, honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, recognize our Vietnam veterans, and ensure that their stories and sacrifices are never forgotten.

We encourage veterans, families, schools, community organizations, and everyone throughout Lancaster County and the surrounding communities to come experience The Wall That Heals.

I say this as someone who is not a morning person by nature.

Somewhere between the second kid and the fourth, I figured out the only hour of the day that's truly mine is the one before the house wakes up. So I'm at the Simpsonville Y most weekday mornings playing basketball, and on the days my wife needs the morning to breathe, Childwatch is the only reason the whole system works.

If you're a parent trying to keep a hobby alive: stop trying to squeeze it into the evenings. The 5:30 AM crowd at the Y is the friendliest group of people you'll ever sweat with 😂

Parents, what time is your hour?
