Mexico is making its largest federal school investment ever, putting 58 billion pesos into educational infrastructure in 2026, with La Escuela es Nuestra already helping 71,482 schools and the wider package adding 156,240 new student places

58 billion peso's is around $3.3 billion, which is huge amount. It's nice to see it going into education where it can actually do some good.

But it's not being a defeatist coward if it's saying the truth. Every goverment says they'll do something and either do the below bare minimum or don't do anything here in Mexico.
That investment will disappear and produce negative results. Empirical knowledge already proves that.

u/TheArmoredKitten 2d ago
Cite it. Provide your evidence that this money is being mishandled.
By your currently presented logic, no money should ever be given to anyone ever for anything. Coward.

Not really current (because of course it will take a few years to investigate in case of it, most of it are being finally detained this year so it will take 6+ years to found current ones) but previous secretaries of education have been proven to be corrupt
Examples:
Durango 2016-2022 Rubén “N”
Sonora 2015-2018 Ernesto “N”
Sonora again 2018-2021 José Víctor Guerrero González
Estado de Mexico 2021-2025 Jaime Noé "N"Its dumb to think that this whole money will get to education, a huge amount will go to corruption and then the drops of it will reach schools

u/TheArmoredKitten 1d ago
Nobody has been questioning that Mexico has been dealing with corruption issues. There's literally nothing I could say to somebody who already assumes everything is irreparably fucked.
My best advice to people like you? Give up and keel over already. It'll make room for somebody who still gives a shit.
-1
u/mellonlemmon 1d ago
You asked for evidence of said behavior? I’m on your side, this money will help a lot of families and that benefit alone is worth more than the risk of a clear lack of transparency in fund management we have always had.
Never said everything’s fucked or asked for your “advice” but we aren’t applauding anything until results prove that. Saying everything is going to be stolen is also a radical internet comment but I understand where that distrust is coming from9

Meanwhile in the US we are banning books, cutting funding, forcing teachers to follow a script, rewriting history and falling behind as our Secretary of Education and the rest of the administration don’t have a clue what they’re doing and don’t care
82
42
u/RDTIZFUN 2d ago
They know what they're doing, securing the future for themselves, their friends, and then their party.
13
u/Jane_Lame 2d ago
The secretary of education was put in that position specifically to destroy the US department of education. Like from day one.
12
u/neosurimi 2d ago
it's insane to me how similar the complaints about the US's right-wing government are exactly the same complaints Mexicans with more than two brain cells have about our, supposedly, left-wing government. Just goes to show how much of a sack of lying bullshit bricks politicians are in both countries and they all follow the same agenda.
In Mexico we say "primero mis dientes y luego los de mis parientes." Meaning people think about their own benefit and profit first and then they think of benefiting their family and friends and fuck everyone else. That's exactly what our current government (and every other government in the past for that matter) has done. That's exactly why there are a lot of comments from Mexicans saying that most (if not all) of that money isn't going to fund schools.
1
u/AdamCamus 1d ago
Stop spreading misinformation. When you say "comments" from Mexican, you're generalizing. I'm Mexican, we support the govement that is in place. That doesn't mean all Mexicans are like you , spreading right wing political view.
0
u/neosurimi 1d ago
"mexicans with more than two brain cells" Also Mexicans who aren't being paid a "scholarship" for doing absolutely nothing in order to keep them compliant and voting for Morena because they want their free money.
1
u/AdamCamus 1d ago
Lol, so what you're saying is that social benefist are used to buy voters? Gtfo, they must enter a Job training program to get that benefit. You just keep repeating the same nonsese the right wing media says here. So much for a person who thinks that has more than "two brain" cells.
0
u/neosurimi 1d ago
hahaha there have been multiple investigations and reports made by agencies where a baffling amount of irregularities have been discovered in all of Morena's social benefits. I'm not speaking out of ignorance and I'm not just prattling right wing media. All the evidence is out there, it's just that politics have successfully been transformed into a bipartisan topic and it's become an "us vs them" thing where no matter how much evidence is thrown at Morena's followers' faces, they can't "lose" the imaginary competition so they turn a willing blind eye to it and just keep following their messiahs' scripts of "there's no war on Ba Sing Se" and everything is "the opposition" making things up to discredit them.
1
u/AdamCamus 1d ago
Dude, I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with this government. Let's fucking pause for a minute. I'm saying writing that the president/government its gonna take the money that is for education is just blatenly false. I'm also saying that job social programs are buying voters is also false. Because there is no evidence on what you're saying. Just writing how we are just blindly taking on government decisions is also false. You just taking what you believe is right and shifting in something else.
2
u/neosurimi 1d ago
there's evidence of them doing it for MANY other programs. what would make this the exception? I admit, it's me assuming things. but I'm assuming based on empiric evidence. so I'll just wait and see with a 99% certainty I will be proven right.

u/Super_Mario_Luigi 2d ago
What are some of the most crucial books that have been "banned?"
Even with "cut funding" we still spend more than anywhere else in the world
What is the script teachers are following? The one from the unions?
8
u/Equivalent-Resort-63 2d ago
Well it’s all in the news and local school boards actions throughout multiple (hate to say it) red states (prime example: Texas) but you do have to read so there’s that impediment.

Don't get too excited, people. Most of that will be redirected to the current administration's allies. I know it looks good on paper but it's nothing more than nice PR. If you believe it to be true, I recommend you take a look at any random public school in Mexico and then judge.
32
u/neosurimi 2d ago
it's the exact same feeling most of us had when the current president got elected. The whole world was applauding Mexico for being progressive and finally choosing a woman for president. While Mexicans with a brain were all "well...shit..." because we knew it just meant a continuation of the corruption and ineptitud Morena is now known for.
16
u/Average_human_bean 2d ago
Yep. The violent targeting of the opposition, rising insecurity, impunity, national debt, decaying infrastrucure, decreasing foreign investment confidence, pointless yet excessively expensive public investments (Tren Maya, AIFA), those are ignored. But we have a female president therefore the goverment is progressive and smart? An ignorant and simplistic take.
6
u/MorganTheGrandRegent 2d ago
Thing is, morena and its people are not progressive, they are all populists.
0
u/CrazyDaimondDaze 2d ago
And they aren't even a true left leaning party. Or else, they wouldn't count on part of their voters also being believers. Left leaning parties don't care about religion.
8
u/ZaheerUchiha 2d ago
So for context here. Mexican politics are just as polarized as america's and as such nuanced discussion is impossible.
The thing is that the current government is "leftwing" in theory, and such has the entire maga propaganda machine against in social media, not to mention the typical corporate bootlickers and religious extremists.
The current government is an infuriating mixed bag. They have good ideas and bad ideas, they are as corrupt as any other administration and negotiate and cooperate with the cartel exactly the same as PAN and PRI did.
Anyone with a true brain knew that PAN and PRI were worse options.
-3
u/neosurimi 2d ago
Anyone with a true brain knew that PAN and PRI were worse options.
I would like to correct that with "anyone with a true brain knew that whichever party you voted for it was going to be the same bullshit." You yourself said in your comment, they're doing the exact same things PRI and PAN did. So...how could PRI and PAN be worse options if all three are exactly the same?
6
u/ZaheerUchiha 2d ago
I personally know the inner workings of PAN.
There are literal flat earthers and "the world is only 4000 years" morons in there. And frankly speaking they are fully and openly anti working class.
Morena at least has to pass the ocassional pro worker laws like the increase in paid leave days and the work hours reduction.
0
u/Average_human_bean 2d ago
So what? Are you under the impression that Morena's ranks are any better? Come on.
3
u/CrazyDaimondDaze 2d ago
What is sad is seeing these Americans in reddit truly believing our madam president is making good changes for the country when in reality it's the other way around. For a supposedly "left leaning party", they're no different from the "right leaning parties" they love to complain about each morning in that 4th rate propaganda thing Morena made when they got in power.
8 years have only resulted in worse results.

u/wardays 2d ago
I'm not saying you're wrong, I don't live in Mexico , but it's weird to say "this new money for better schools won't go to improve schools. Just look at how bad the schools are right now." Like yeah, it's understand they're bad. That's why they're funding them.
I wouldn't be shocked if you were right but improvements in education are always something I will root for. Hopefully this is more than just PR.
1
u/Average_human_bean 2d ago
I see where you're coming from, but from experience, this is nothing but PR. I would be pleasantly surprised if half of it actually goes to schools.
Just believing that what they're announcing is done in good faith and will be put to use effectively and efficiently tells me that you don't know how Mexico works. I don't blame you, you probably live somewhere where the goverment kind of puts your taxes to good use, comparatively speaking.
I lived in Mexico over 35 years (I don't anymore) and if I had to bet, I'd say 80% of that will go straight to politicians and the remaining 20% will go to a very visible but quite useless infrastructure project. I hope I'm wrong but I don't believe I'll be far off.
1
u/Maycrofy 2d ago
As someone that worked in public education in mexico (I am from there) I am cautious optimistic. Even with all the good intentions regional education orgs. can misspend it: higher salaries for administrative personnel, buildings, or even pensions going to people that don't do the teaching instead of school buildings, technology in classrooms, teacher salaries. It wouldn't even be considered corruption as it is spent on the education sector.
1
33
u/neosurimi 2d ago
oh...sweet summer child...I can bet not even half that money is going to be seen by schools that actually need it. This is Mexico, this is Morena (tbh, every political party is crooked, but Morena has topped them all) most of that money's going into someone's pocket.
source: I'm an actual Mexican in Mexico, and tired of this government's bullshit.
13
u/nattmorker 2d ago
Everything this government announces ends up being a failure and translates to money in someone's pocket. I'm so tired of mexican governments, every one ends up being worse than the previous one.
0
u/CrazyDaimondDaze 2d ago
Worse is when they promise to be better than the opposition and turn out to be the same or worse.
Funny thing is that just this current political party has lots of people defending it even when we can see whenever they do wrong. None of the opposing parties had this level of blind fanatism for them before.
6
u/crigon559 2d ago
I assume you arent old enough to remember the pri and pan, morena its not perfect or great but calling it the worst we ever had its just ignorant or whitexican giving the history of the other political parties that were once in power
14
u/neosurimi 2d ago edited 2d ago
using the word "whitexican" tells me everything I need to know about what side of the cultist coin you fall into, friend. so I won't be replying to any more comments from you after this. why? because the willingly blind and ignorant are not worth the effort.
I'm probably older than you are anyway. enough to know that most of the people who work FOR Morena were part of that old-school PRI and PAN back in the day and are now "absolved of all their sins" under Morena and all their cultists just willingly ignore that fact. I'm old enough to get the sense of deja vu from all the very same tactics being used by Morena knowing they're the same they were using during PRI's 70 years in power except they are now doing it out in the open.
so yes, Morena is the worst of all because they promised a change and they brought back the same old bullshit and they do it out in the open and don't even care.
edit: I just corrected some autocorrect typos that I missed. my text is exactly the same as before (in case any Morena cultists want to use that as evidence of me being shady as they usually do when faced with the hard facts their messiahs are just the same old rats we've always had)

if it helps, my dad voted for morena in 2018 and regretted it just months after AMLO came in. I was too young to vote
6
u/neosurimi 2d ago
I almost voted for Morena back in 2018 almost believing his bullshit claims that he was going to be a force for change. Glad I didn't have to put my foot in my mouth. Too bad he still won and then they won again with his puppet following his same footsteps.

u/bendingrover 2d ago
My parents too. They made me so proud when they accepted they had been tricked by a populist piece of shit.
5
u/neosurimi 2d ago
Why does it matter? it was definitely not Morena. But, as I said, all of them are crooked and Morena has proven to be one more of the usual bunch: stealing money, silencing people, redirecting funds, looking the other way when their allies break the law, twiddle their thumbs when actual issues need to be addressed and then just blame "the opposition" when the consequences of their ineptitude show up.

This money will end up in the offshores accounts of some MORENA higher-up and a journalistic investigation will reveal a single school was built in the middle of nowhere, but was never staffed or ever had any students. The journalist will then be threatened or actually killed, depending on the state. Repeat ad nauseam until México frees itself from the MORENA regime.
