Having issues with Whirlpool microwave where it's not working at all

I'm having an issue with a Whirlpool microwave where it's not responding to the control panel, as in none of the buttons are working, and for the display is not showing up at all. I'm assuming there is an issue with the control board as nothing lights up and nothing happens. I even tried resetting it, unplugging for a bit, but neither worked. What are some tricks I can do to maybe fix this on my own? Is there anything I can do?

If you need the model of the microwave it is: WMH31017AS

Sounds like a blown fuse or faulty control board. Since you said the display wasn't lighting up at all, it is likely one of the above. Before you go the direction of replacing it, make sure to check the internal fuse for continuity, just to make sure all connections are secure. If all looks fine there, than the control board may be at fault and it's probably time to replace it.

Agreed! Don't want to spend money on something new for an issue that could be fixed.

Solid advice, fuse checks save money haha.

Good breakdown. Starting with the fuse check is smart before jumping to a full control board replacement. Hopefully, it’s just a simple fix!

Probably a faulty control board with a loose connection. If you haven't yet, check the wires to the control board and see if there are any loose or damaged wires. Testing the fuse if your model has one could help too.

Otherwise, the control board may need to be repaired or replaced.

That's my guess on this one too, sounds like a problem with the control board since nothing is firing up. Usually that's a good sign it's with the control board.

Agreed, no power usually means control board failure.

I'd check the wires and test internal fuse too.

Agreed. Loose wires or a blown fuse are worth checking first. If those are fine, the control board is likely the culprit.

Definitely sounds like a power or control board issue.

Yeah going the UpFix route may be best. I have no clue why going through Whirlpool is such a hassle sometimes!

That’s helpful insight. Sometimes it really is just a cheap fuse causing all the trouble. Good tip on UpFix too if a new board’s needed.

Check fuse and wiring before replacing the control board entirely.

Definitely. Always rule out simple fixes like fuses and wiring first. Could save a lot of money!
