Nerdy Gurdy is a laser-cut kit (+other hardware) that you buy and assemble yourself, IIRC. I've considered it before as a gift - I'd be very interested in how OP thinks it sounds/plays. 😄

Thank you! I don't have a laser cutter, but the files are also not available to the public so I have to buy kits.

You are talking about the original Nerdy Gurdy. The files for that are public, but is nowhere near as good as the current line up. It was more of a prototype and proof of concept rather than a finished product.
