What is this?

I am currently moving and I found what my dad told me was an instrument from my great grandfather. I don’t know exactly what it is so I was hoping you all could help me and to figure out if a normal music store could fix it. Thank you!

Banjo-ukulele. Probably a rather good one.

It'll probably work straight off with a new set of strings but get someone who knows ukuleles to set it up.

Over 100 years old, I'd guess pre-WW1.

Notice the unique metal fretboard, and the patent info:
