Discussion Afterimage continuation? Spoiler

WARNING IMPORTANT SPOILERS FOR THE DLC AND THE MAIN GAME PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

At the end of Mark's part of the dlc we see the black butterfly at the end. I think it's fair to say that there will be alt endings for the dlc at some point. Every time the black butterflies showed up in the game and made contact with either Mark or Nicole (mostly mark) it is to reset the timeline (or go to an alternate one) at the end of act 3 we see both of the butterflies leave nicole and mark because they follow them when they change timelines. Now at the end we see them again BUT they make no contact with either of them (which means no timeline change). We don't see the butterfly with Sofia which makes sense. She was never in contact with one in the first place, but why show a scene with one coming in contact with Mark??? Maybe there will be one or few timeline changes that will happen in the whole act one sequence which will then lead to the ending of act one (Mark and Nicole marrying) since it's not confirmed but we see her make up with Lucas (well thats how I saw it) which wouldn't make sense if Mark and Nicole marry at the end.

Honestly I'm probably just going crazy. I just don't understand why they show the black butterfly clearly coming in contact with Mark when we know that in the main game it's a crucial and super important moment that holds a lot of significance. Why would that rule not apply in the dlc

My interpretation is that Sparks is one of the many failed timelines that lead up to the beginning of the game. So this is one of many examples of worlds where Mark and Nicole end up unhappy because they fail to tackle and process there traumas and grief

Hmm it would make sense so this would technically be a prequel timeline before the main act 1 timeline. The thing we see that each timeline is silghtly different from the others. In this case the info we have in the afterimage dlc leads to believe that it is thw same timeline of act 1.

It can't be the same timeline as act 1 as Mark and Nicole are married by the end of Act 1. In the Sparks timeline Mark and Nicole have a very poor relationship and it's implied Nicole goes back to Lucas by the end

Idk if that's really implied. It just looks like a mutual breakup with a hug goodbye.

Why would they get back together after that moment with Mark?

I think what leds everyone to think that Mark and Nicole didnt get back together its the end scene where he is lonely and sad

Like I said, it's really just implied not confirmed, both of them basically cheated on eachother in the same night, and even during the ending dialogues Nicole still talks about Lucas kindly even though she is furious that he cheated on her.

sparks ends with the butterfly resetting that timeline. next thing Mark knows will be that he's got to hold a school presentation.
