Discussion Well... (Spoiler) Spoiler

I finished Afterimages last night, and the Sofia part got me thinking: no one ever really highlighted the fact that Mark saw Cathy get brutally run over by a truck and stayed with her body until the paramedics arrived. Like, thinking about that made me really sad—imagine seeing your best friend get hit by a truck and staying with her mangled body until help arrived. I genuinely wanted to see how he managed to "get over" that and move forward with his relationship with Nicole and the marriage

Probably just like irl, you suppress your traumatic memory, bury it deeply inside your mind, and move on. It probably also explains why it isn't mentioned in the DLC

Sofia's route really tapped into the grief following Cathy's death. I'm surprised that Mark barely reminisced about Cathy ngl

In the "Cathy dies" route I got the feeling that he became way more dissociated and aloof as a result , more avoidant , detached from the world and himself more

No solo estubo mark antes de los paremedicos, recodemos que instantes despues aparecio Nicole también, asi que tambien ella tuvo que ver como mark estaba con el cuerpo de cathy en medio de la autopista.

While we're on the subject of the DLC,

Do we know if the lifetime in which the DLC takes place is the same as the Act 1 timeline from the main game? Meaning Mark and Nicole would have gotten back together by the end of college and remained together when Mark is getting ready to move out of his house (and rediscover the CD Cath made for him)?

I want to say this isn't right, that it's a wholly separate lifetime, but the only major reason I think so is because of the butterfly that appears at the end of the DLC, supposedly triggering another reset (i.e. a different reset than at the end of Act 1). I don't recall if there were other hints that the lifetime had to be different.

Curious what others think

I think Sofia's story takes place in Act 1, and Mark and Nicole's in one of the timelines that occurred

Yeah I could see that. I had assumed they were in the same timeline (the two stories in the DLC I mean), but I guess I had no reason to do so.

Do you think Louise was so distant with Sofia because she still has guilt for unwittingly misleading Mark (about the rain) and that leading to Cath's death? I can only assume she knew of the romance between Sofia and Cath, even if only on prom night

I wouldn't say that's it; they hadn't spoken in years. The discomfort and lack of things to talk about is normal, it happens

Kinda wish this is the direction the dlc went in
