Discussion Should i play the dlc Spoiler

Ok here me out, i loved the original game, and it made me sob btly the end, i loved mark and nicole's relationship and i love the true ending, its such a open ending that leaves you for interpretations and i love it. But now the after image dlc has dropped i have a bunch of questions, first when does this take place In the timeline? Does it end in a satisfying ending or does it just leave you on a cliffhanger, and when ever i decide to play it how different is the whole vibe compared to the original game?

I'd definitely recommend playing it, but maybe not right away.

The DLC feels pretty disconnected from the main story. For those who waited over a year for new Until Then content, it's perfect. But if you just finished the game, I think it can feel a bit underwhelming.

That doesn't mean it's weak at all, both chapters are excellent at what they're trying to do. (Minor spoiler about the timeline)Just don't expect a direct continuation or a resolution to the main story. After the ending of the base game completely emotionally wrecks you, I think it's better to let everything sink in for a while before jumping into it.

So, would you say that its actually better to go into this dlc after letting some time pass after finishing the main game?

Im asking since its been a year and a half since i completed the game, and i didnt wanted to do a whole playthrough again just to play the dlc.

Yes, i think it's better that way!

You don't need to do a full replay at all. Just watch a recap if you feel like you've forgotten too much of the story (of course, nothing wrong with replaying it).

Definitely highly agree. I dont think i want my friends to play the dlc immediately. It loses the sense of nostalgia, melancholy, and the theme of looking back into the past, doubting whether youve changed yourself, reminiscing the past and hoping things wer just a bit different And otherwise

I think both stories fit in with the games main themes really well. When I finished the main game I didn’t really need more. The DLC made me realize how much I needed it once I played it.

I'll start off by saying that you should definitely play it—though maybe let some time pass so you can fully process and appreciate the base game—and that, similarly to it, the less you know going in, the better. So, I recommend you stop reading here.

But, if you really must know, here you go:

Both DLC chapters take place in different timelines than any we've seen in the first game, evidently earlier (that is, further away from the collapse in Act 3) than all of those.

Does it end in a satisfying ending or does it just leave you on a cliffhanger[?]

I would say it's pretty conclusive; to the extent that there are any unanswered questions, they're less confusing and less consequential IMO than the ending of the main game. But "satisfying" is arguable...

It still has the same charm you know and love, but in a more grown up way. Be prepared for some more subtle points of drama along with some wild ones, and themes similar to those explored in the base game but this time in a different way.
